How much money can one make through stock market per year?

Stock market has been seen as the nice money accumulating means in modern times.However, it is not totally understandable to common man to invest in stocks maybe because of its complex nature. Is there a simple mean to learn the basics of stock market to get the most from it? Looking for positive response!!

I think there are some books about investing in online stock markets, look it up with utorrent.Stock investing for dummies comes in mind. I'll have to try it once I hit the hundreds.

I am also interested in playing the stock market, but I've found it really hard to get started with most companies expecting you to pay them a monthly subscription to use their service - and after that they take some of your profits! Also, it is expected that you usually have a few hundred $$$ to get started :S If anyone has any useful help I'd be grateful too
