bumps or no bumps?!

i drive for a living.. and on the steering wheel of my forklift there are bumps or grooves that go all around the steering wheel.. finger grips.. i know not all steering wheels have this, some only have one or two bumps, some have none, some have dozens that go all the way around like mine.. anyways for those who have ever used or use a steering wheel with the bumps going all around.. do you prefer your fingers in the groove or on the bump? i put mine on the bump not in the groove.. im not sure why but i like the feeling more.. i guess maybe its more free *shrug*
