Flower Moon: the May full moon. In most areas, flowers are abundant everywhere during this time. Thus, the name of this Moon. Other names include the Full Corn Planting Moon, or the Milk Moon. Thanks to the Farmer's Almanac for this little tidbit - that I never heard of. I have heard of the Harvest Moon but nothing else. This was very interesting to read about.

I have heard of Harvest moon but I have never heard of Flower Moon. It does make sense though since there are so many flowers blooming in May. I wonder why it is sometimes called milk moon?

i was taught that anything you plant you do it by the full moon, now why I don't know, may have something to do with not likely to have any more frost, but I have flower seeds to plant tomorrow and we will see if they grow bigger because I planted them by the moon. Harvest moon I believe is when farmers are suppose to bring in their crops, or that is what I was taught, old tales from our grannies.

Interesting. I know my DH does better crabbing right after the full moon. It seems the crabs are at their heaviest before they crawl out of their old shell. Thanks for the response.

I have also heard of the Harvest Moon. i had never heard of the Flower Moon either. I know we are supposed to have a full moon tomorrow night. Does this have anything to do with that? I was just wandering because I had just heard about the full moon on the news a while ago but they never mentioned the Flower Moon along with it.

Thanks for the response. I think it does have something to do with the full moon.

I have heard of a Blue Moon, that is when there are two full moons in one month. Seldom happens, maybe once in a year. So the expression of once in a Blue Moon means not very often. I've heard of strawberry moon. Usually June. I've heard of Starvation Moon, February. Different cultures had different names for their moons based on what was going on in their area. Like June is strawberry moon here, but somewhere else it could have a different name. I used to know a lot of names for each moon. June is also Summer Moon because up here is the first day of summer in June, but some others could say it's July because that is the first full month of summer for a moon. August could be rainy moon because it seems to rain all of August most years. April Showers bring May Flowers is a saying up here, so that May would be the Flower Moon makes sense to me. Take care

Thank you very much for best response. I think you received a lot of neat responses for all the different kinds of moons. This was a long time ago, like when I do my unresolves. I often go a long time. Take care
