----- Exercise for Older Adults
I have been on a diet lately and I have been doing a short time each day on my OH exercise bike , but I was sent this today and it was a great help :)
Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.
Each day, you'll find that you can hold th is position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks. Then try 50-lb potato sacks.
Then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level)
After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.

Oh Weemam you leg puller. You could also try going to your local activity centre. Once there, change into anything that you are comfortable and go to the tea bar and buy the largest doughnut that they've got an a good cuppa. When you return you can look people straight in the eye and say where you have been.

That is cute. I think I could do those exercises. Keep it up and you just might be able to do 3 potatoes in each sack.

Lol, it took me quite some time to realise that this is one of your jokes. Whilst reading this I was wondering why you donĀ“t just buy some weights instead of struggling with potato sacks.
Thanks for making me laugh, weemam (about the joke and about myself not getting it, lol).

I think these are good tips to lose weight. I am also having little bit of weight. Earlier I used to go for walking and cycling. Now a days, I am not getting time to do any exercise. I think I should restart cycling. One time, I used to love to cycle around, but now a days I don't have enough stamina and I am not fit enough to cycle for a longer distance.

ROFL!!!! I was wondering how an older person could hold a 100 lb saack of potatoes lol. But if its just the sack then that works lol. That was hillarious!!. I think I will try those excercises since i am such a weakling anyways. The potatoe sack excercise would be great for me lol/ Thanks for sharing

That was so cute! I was really believing you. LOL I need to get back into some exercise also. I have a gazelle treadmill like but it is really beautiful and so much healthier to get outside and walk.

Yes, weemam. What you recommend is a good exercise for everyone, not only for older adults :P
A suggested variation I learnt from a nutritionist is :-
1) extend both arms straight out (9.15 position using the arms of clock)
2) move both arm to 8.20 position
3) move both arms back to 9.15 position
4) Repeat movement starting from 10 counts, to 20 counts. Try maintaining for 50 counts.

It sounds like your really working out every day and that is good. I hope that you achieve the goals that you have set for yourself. There was someone a few days ago that said something about swimming and i commented to them that i have heard that swimming is a full body workout. I have not tried it myself but that is what i have been told and have seen on tv on some talk show. But keep up the good work.

That sounds interesting but I have one problem. I do not have two of anything in my home that weighs 5 lbs or more. I am not sure if the grocery supermarket I shop at would appreciate me using their display items for exercise!

I would love to have the time to get back to exercising again. I need to lose some weight really bad. I have a treadmill and an exercise bike and no time to use them. By the time I have time, it is time to eat and lay down for the day. I think that is so funny that you made a joke about the potato sacks though. I thought you was a pretty strong woman at first LOL until I seen the bags were empty to begin with LOL.

What a way to start out my monday morning. My arms were already giving out just reading this as I do have weak arms as it is. I was so amazed at the level you were on in such a short amount of time and then you got me. Thanks for the morning laugh weemam and I hope you have a wonderful day and an even better week.

I don't think I have ever seen a 100 pound bag of potatos. With the price of potatos right now I could not afford to buy two bags of them anyways. I wonder if it would work just as good to use a 5 pound dumball in eash hand and work your way up with those.
