Height is required for basketball

Yes, it is important, i agree but pterion is right, not a must. There are a few short basketball players that are not that tall and play on the NBA, and are quite good. Tyrone Curtis Bogues alias Muggsy Bogues was and remains, the shortest player ever to play in the NBA, at 5' 3".

i don't think height is necessary for basketball. although being tall is really an advantage. there are short players who are very popular and are good with basketball. in our local basketball league, there are lots of short players with the forward position. i think it all depends on the talent and skill. if a person is short but good in shooting and stealing balls, fastbreaks, and all that, then he'll be an asset in a basketball team.

Some coaches will tell you that you cannot coach height. What that means is that they are able to coach how to handle the ball, how to shoot, how to play good defense, and the mechanics of the game, but there is nothing they can do about how tall you are. I looked and didn't see whether you are a male or female. Either way, there are players of your height on men's and women's teams...although less prevalent on men's teams. I know a lot of coaches who would be very happy with a 5'11" female point guard.
