Would you eat something off the floor?

You've heard about the five second rule, right? Where supposedly it's OK to eat something if it falls on the floor as long as you pick it up before five seconds. Ordinarily, I'd just say gross and throw the thing into the trash.
But, I saw this TV show, where they had a scientist conduct tests on a cookie piece that had fallen on the floor. You'd think the food would instantly be covered with bacteria and germs, but not so. They found that an item doesn't actually start getting bacteria on it, even if it has fallen on the floor until five or more seconds has passed. After that time, the bacteria actually started crawling in the direction of the food on the floor. That part was kind of creepy.
And, the test was conducted in a mall food court, where lots of dirty shoes are walking around. So, I thought that was interesting. Still I would not eat off the floor. What do you think about the five second rule and eating something that has fallen on the floor? What's your stance? Just toss it and get another one? Or, go ahead and chow down?

I am not a 5 second person rule, now my husband on the other hand is... There's been times things dropped on the floor and he'd reach down grab it whip it off and shove it in his mouth. I just say oh ish you have no idea what's been on the floor.. for me though I'd toss it away, I ways always taught to never eat anything off the floor... Everyone is different that's for sure!

I saw a chef on a cookery program Saturday drop a piece of bread he was preparing in the oven. He stooped down, picked it up and blew on it (just to make sure I guess as he wasn't in his own kitchen lol) and then use it. Now mind you that was on the BBC and Antonio Carluccio isn't just any greasy spoon cook. Considering the fact that something like that could have been edited I'd agree that the 5 second rule is pretty good.
But if I can avoid it I'd prefer not to eat stuff that's been on the floor. Especially if it's been buttered and jammed and then falls on the jammy side!

When I was younger, I often heard my cousins who were older than me talk about the 5-second rule. I think I got used to it that for a while, I practiced it. My parents would often warn me about it. They often told me that it was not a good practice. Later on, I started to read more about it and I realized that I should not have even done it when I was younger. Well, at present, I wouldn't really eat something that already has fallen on the floor. I do not want to catch any virus or something!
