I used to bite my fingernails as well. I'm not really sure what has happened the fast few months, but I've just recently stopped.
They do have this stuff(with the nail polish in most stores) that you paint on your fingernails (its clear and not shiny, so guys can use it too), but whatever it is, it taste horrible and it's supposed to condition you to not bit your nails.

I think I never bite my nails.
It's not only a bad habit, but also very dirty.
there are many bacteria.
And I find that there are more boys bit their nails than girls.
When someone want to bit his nail, just tell him to bit something instead, such as chewing gum.

I think we should work to stop people from smoking before we tackle nailbiting. Atleast if I bite my nails (and I do) I'm not blowing second-hand anything at people, whereas smokers are endangering the health of all who sit around them.

I do bite my nails as well. It's a bad habit that I had cultivated during my teens.

No, I don't bite my nails or anywhere near them like the cuticles. My hubby does it, usually because he's stressed out or just bored. I find it absolutely disgusting and disfiguring - his fingers have these marks all around the cuticle bed and nail. =.=
I have tried asking him nicely, I have tried telling him why, heck I have even fined him every time I catch him - he owes me 30 CHF so far - and while he still does it, it's less now.
I hate catching him and going "Dear....." because it just makes me look like a nag. =.=
I read somewhere that there is a nail polish for nail biters - it gives off a bitter taste - which reminds me of those solutions to help dogs break the habit of chewing on stuff!
