Ok some of you might remember my cat Nigel being hit by a car and dying a few weeks ago. Well my new kitten Alfred is now in hopsital! I can't believe it. I came home from work last night (I work at the Animal Emergency Centre) at 2.30am and opened the bathroom up to have a shower. Alfred sleeps in the bathroom at night and I could hear him meowing loudly. I turned the light on and to my horror, found him with his face all swollen adn his eye swollen too. His breathing was all crackly and his head was wet. I panicked and woke my fiance up and told him we have to race back to my work. We took him there and luckily they said he should be OK.
It turns out my fiance left a bottle of antiseptic open and I think Alfred knocked it over onto his head, which seriously irritated him. He was put onto intravenous fluids and was administered antibiotics. The vet who comes on duty tonight at 6pm will reassess him and call me up to let me know if I can bring him home tonight.
On the way to the ER last night, I was thinking 'oh no, I can't lose another cat this soon.' It was so scary and stressful. What is it with me and cats?!!

I am so sad this happened to you but also chuckling because I remembered the Simpson episode where Lisa kept getting cats and then ended up having to bury each one for one reason or another. When a theme like that shows up on that cartoon show, then it must be something that has happened to quite a few people. My parents once had a cat who got into the barn and knocked over a pail of creosote. Oh, was that pitiful to see. We had to wrap the poor thing in a towel and shave about 1/3 of the fur off. Pathetic little kitty was pretty sick for a few days, but back to normal in a month or so.

I'm so very sorry that you are not having much luck with your kittens.
I do hope that this kitten is going to be all right and soon be home with you. I have all my fingers and toes crossed fro you.
I can really feel for you as I have a cat and a kitten and they are my babies (as after four children my hubby won't let me have any more!). I often stand on the doorstep calling my kitten in at night as he is my baby and I don't want him staying out all night. My other cat is four years old and does like to stay out all night sometimes, I don't mind him staying out all night as he can look after himself and always comes home. But my baby the kitten is different.
Please keep us up to date with how your kitten is doing.
I'm now watching out for two cats on the mend. yours and tattylashes kitten had a run in with some awful boys and has been poorly as well.

Hi coffeeshot,
With all the drama and intrigue going on there, I reckon you should write up a script for a new soapie and sell it to the networks - "Furballs".
You could base it on "The Young and the Restless" or something else in that genre of entertainment... the kiddies will all be riveted to their seats waiting wide-eyed for each new episode.
Of course, you'll have to protect the innocent by renaming your cats' characters to something more acceptable like "Dwayne" and "Ridge" and "Morgan" and "Destiny" etc.
And whenever the cats have a deep and meaningful conversation, make sure they're each at opposite ends of the room facing the walls, and always have serious looks on their faces (because everything is just sooo serious).
You should have no shortage of material, what with a juvenile feline and a house full of opportunities.
You can send me the commission after you receive your first pay check ;)

Accidents happen and just like when we have babies, we have topet proof our homes. Cats like to get into everything... I am so glad for you that it was mild and your kitten is going to be okay.

i think we will all feel the same. the fear of losing another one within such a short time. i've lost my cat once to an accident and i basically turned my home into one big cage. any opening is grilled up with grilles so tight a fisted hand cannot pass through. until today, my cats are not allowed out without supervision. and only within 10ft from my home door. anything further and i'll start to get a panic attack.
thank goodness alfred is alright. remind your fiance to tighten the cap on all bottles. can imagine the pain that alfred went through.

Aww poor thing! That is why having pets us like having babies. You need to "baby proof" your house when you have animals.

Oh sweety what a scare you must have had with Alfred last night - especially so soon after losing Nigel! I am glad that it seems he is going to be fine! It isn't anything you are doing wrong , kittens get into everything and are full of mischief - they get themselves into so much trouble! I am sure you must have seen this a lot at work. Let us know how Alfred is doing, please. xxx

Hi coffeeshot, So sorry for your loss and now the problem with Alfred. I hope he's feeling better now. I lost a cat last month that I had for 13 years, and I know how difficult it can be. I have two cats now, and as I sit at my computer, they are usually sleeping, one on either side of me. Blessings.

I'm sorry but your luck seems a bit off as of late with cats. But honestly Hun I think from what you described he'll be ok .. I'll keep him in my thoughts take care and yell at the other half about leaving things out that can be dangerous to pets.

Oh bless his heart and yours!! It seems you're having a round of bad luck with your fur babies but please please don't give up!! They need your love and care because there's so many in need of homes. When one passes over the rainbow bridge from a good and loving home, I try to think of it this way, at least they knew love before they passed. Bless your heart and his!! I hope he gets better really soon!!
Now tell your fiance to be more careful from now on. ;)

I was horrified to hear what had happened to Alfred, and hope that he will be ok. Good job you got him to the vet for treatment, poor little thing. Your heart must have been racing, wondering if you were going to lose yet another cat.
Tell you fiance he'll have to be more careful with his stuff now, and not leave tops off bottles anymore. You can't be too careful with a little kitten in the house!
I hope Alfred makes a full recovery.

Wow, your life sounds like mine, so I know just how you feel about a cat always in trouble. I don't think it is you and cats, it is just cats seem to get into trouble. I have one cat that stays in the house 23 hours a day, and he came up with a horrible abcess from some other cat biting him. Go figure.
I am sure Alfred is going to be fine. Be glad that you do work at the emergency clinic and know the doctors there. I have some good vets too, and that is a big help.
Keep your faith with the kitties. They do keep us hopping which is probably a good thing.

Poor little Alfred, I hope that he is OK. I had the same luck with cats, since 1999 I have had 5 cats, and now I have none. I decided when I lost my last cat that I would not be having anymore pets, it is too hard to cope with it when they die or go missing.
I hope that you get good news about you little kitty, let me know how he goes on.

Oh the poor baby.
And so soon after Nigel too. I do hope he'll be ok, and back home as soon as possible. I dont think there's anything wrong with you and cats you're just having a bad patch. But i'm confident things will work out ok, you're a wonderful mommy so keep your head up these things happen.
