Quitting Smoking

I need some help here... I actually had quit smoking for at least 12 weeks when I was in the Army. But as soon as I made it out of Basic Combat Training just the smell of a cigarette made me want one. So, since I was able to buy cigarettes, I did. And now it's been over a year that I started up smoking again and I really want to quit. I hate being tired, thinking it stops me from eating, expecting that to be my security blanket when I'm stressed out, being out of breath from just walking up the stairs...it's just ridiculous...and don't even get me started on the price of cigarettes. It's gonna keep going up just like our gas. I remember a time that I used to tell myself that if cigarettes got to $3.00 per pack I was quitting. Now, here in Colorado, they are almost $4 per pack, but I know in other states they are sometimes $6 and even more. I have children that I want to see grow up and I'm afraid if I keep smoking it won't be as long as I want it to be. I have slowed down my smoking to the point that 1 pack usually last 2 1/2 days when it used to last only one. Anyway, the reason for this post is this: Have you ever tried quitting smoking? Have you ever fallen back and started smoking again even after you quit? What are some successful ways for quitting? Any advice on ways to deal with things (like eating more, stressing more, crying no matter what

I have just quit smoking again, I'm hoping it will last this time. I've been smoking for over 10 years. I gave up smoking for 5 months before after going to a smoking cessation group through the NHS, I don't know if health clinics in the US offer similar groups, or maybe you could start your own meeting so you can get the help and support from others going through the same thing. The second and third times I quit for 6 months after having surgery. After the surgeries I went cold turkey - I couldn't smoke in hospital so didn't bother starting again when I came out. This time I am using patches and my husband is hopefully going to stop with me. I'm only on day 2 so I can't tell you how it's going really. There are some good websites that offer support too, such as http://www.quitnet.com/ and http://www.quitsmoking.com/ which help you recognise your smoking patterns, benefits of quitting and offer support forums.

Cosmic, I am going to check out those websites right now! Thank you so much. Good luck on your journey in not smoking. I tried using patches once and even on the lowest patch I ended up throwing up because it wasn't putting nicotine when I wanted it in my body...just whenever it wanted. And I got so sick! LOL!!! Anyway, I believe we have smoking cessation classes here, too so I will some research on finding what I need to do to get there or where they are near me at. Thank you again for the comment :D
