What is web hosting. How can i start web hosting

I am not very knowledgeable on this but web hosting means providing a host (system, server) on which a website can be shown to the internet. There are sites (i.e., Startlogic) that will provide you with the way to be a web host yourself. That means that you would rent space and server time from them and provide the means for others to have a website through you. You would have to support your customers if they had difficulties or questions. This is what many people do (not me). They resell a service that requires no capital outlay, only a monthly or yearly charge, and call it their own webhosting service, even though the hardware and facilities are provided and owned and maintained by a larger webhosting company. At least, this is the way I understand it.
