Well, I joined paperbackswap.com, so that I could trade away my old books that I no longer want any longer. I ended up sending out 7 books through paperbackswap, and 2 through swaptree! I've already gotten 2 books from a member of paperbackswap that I requested, and then I also got one that I ordered from Barnes and Noble! I'm so excited, I love getting new books, because now I have some new stuff to read, and I also cleared out my old ones!
If you really like to read, and have tons of books to get rid of, you should really join the above sites, you'd love them. You only pay the shipping to send books out when they are requested from you. You earn a credit for each book you send on paperbackswap. The only time you trade on swaptree is when someone else is sending you a book in return.
If you plan to join either PaperBackSwap.com, or SwapTree.com, then please say that jenni7202 referred you, thanks! Also, you should stop by and post here to let me know how you like it.

This is a good way to move books around. I like to collect books and I would hate to get rid of my computer books because I might need them for reference purposes. I do have some other books that might be good for swapping.

Then you should definetly check it out. I always get books FreeCycled to me, or just given to me. Most of the time I don't read all the books given to me, so I just post them for others to see if they would want them. I've gotten rid of a good chunk of them this way, and love getting books that I really know I want to read.

That is a wonderful idea. It sounds an awful lot like the Bookcrossings project where a book is left somewhere with a label in it and a number, telling the world that it is free, and to track the number on a website, so that we will be able to see where the books have traveled to.
