How long does your library allow you to keep books?

Ours used to let us keep them for two weeks, but we had a week "grace period," and if we returned them during that time, we wouldn't get charged for it. They changed it to three weeks lending period, with NO grace period. Three weeks seems like plenty of time. What do you think? Is that long enough? How long does your library allow you to keep them?

books - books rental
I can keep my books and tapes for 3 weeks, but also I can call and ask for next 3 weeks if no one is waiting for the book or movie. I like my library a lot.

Well, I can renew mine, too, (forgot to mention that) but I have to remember to do it in time!

Ours in about a month I think. It's rare I'd keep a book that long as I tend to take them back as soon as I've read them. Safer in the library than in my house!

I am not sure what the limit is. Last I knew it was something like 2 or 3 weeks. Just not had to get anything from the Library lately to know their ruling, but 3 weeks sounds like plenty of time especially if you also get a chance to renew them if you still need more time to read them.

Three weeks should be enough time, I agree... unless you do like me and check out too many!

Well for as long as I know, it would be for 2 weeks. And if you want to keep it longer you have to request an extension for it... We have a new library that is the same spot.. So, I believe that the rules are still the same as before.

That's what it used to be for our library, but we had a week's worth of grace period. We could renew any time until that ran out, though.

The library here lets you keep books for two weeks and as far as I know, there is no grace period before they start to charge you. I think that three weeks would be plenty of time as long as there was time in a schedule to read it regularly every night or so. It can depend on the book too...lol..I have had books that I couldn't put down once I picked them up and breezed through them in a couple of days while others have been a bit less addictive. I have also went through times when I didn't get to read them as much as I wanted to. I usually just check them out for another couple of weeks if I need the extra time.

Hello, peavey. I live in the Portland metro area and once in a while I go to the Vancouver library across the river to check out books. They have a great 4 week period. Here in Portland, it is only three weeks. It is worth driving the extra 4 miles to get the same books for an extra week. They also have a "grace" period, and that can be up to two weeks. You can also check them out online three more times if no one else is needing them. :)

Yeah, I'd say 4 miles is worth another week! It's nice that you have the choice to make. I can renew books online, too - when I remember to do it. :)

I think it is three weeks. I'm not entirely sure, because I haven't gotten a chance to go ther lately. Three weeks is more than enough for me. I get maybe a dozen or so at a time.

I wouldn't have time to read a dozen in three weeks. Any more, I do well with two or three!

Our public library here allows you to have them for 3 weeks at a time. When the due date is near you can renew them for another 3 weeks. I think the total you can renew a book is 3 times without having to take th book back in. The only time they dont allow a renewal is if someone has placed a hold on the book and is waiting for them. Typically I'm done 3 or 4 books in a week so the 3 weeks is definitely long enough. If I have to renew a book Its because I'm having a hard time getting into a book and been pushing it to the side to read others.

Wow, so theoretically you could keep a book for nine weeks. That's a long time. I think if I couldn't read a book by then, I'd give up.

Our library allows us to keep books for 3 weeks, but just 2 weeks for a brand new release. You can not renew the new books. The older books can be renewed two times as long as they don't have holds on them. If they have holds you have to return them right away. If they don't have holds you can keep them up to 12 weeks if you renew them twice. They also have DVD's and some video games but you can only keep them for a week and if you are more than 2 days late returning them it is a dollar a day.

Wow our local library used to let you have 8 weeks but I think they reduced it down to 6 so plenty of time to read the books! Only I always used to read them mega fast and so would have read 2 or 3 within a couple of days. I never hardly go toi the library anymore now though as prefer to buy and collect them on my bookshelves! x

We're allowed to keep them for three weeks unless they're new and in high demand. In that case you can only have them for one week with no renewals. Regular books you can renew twice so unless someone else requests the book you can technically keep it for nine weeks. Of course, I read multiple books each week so I never keep them for nine weeks.

I think we can have the new ones for only two weeks. I'm not sure about the renewal because I hardly ever check out new books. I think you can only renew the regular books once here.

Hello peavey We can (theoretically) check out an unlimited number of books. Mrs. Turner and I have put this to the test many times as we usually check out 20 or more books apiece!! We just can't contain ourselves when in the library and we'll check out any book that catches our attention. We can keep them two weeks, but we can renew them either in person, online, or by telephone. Two weeks is usually enough time for about half that many books, but I end up renewing a good many. I think there is a shorter limit on some new books, and there is also a limit on how many DVD Videos we can check out at a time. Peace

You know, I think it used to be unlimited here, too, but I don't know if it is any more. I tend to get carried away in the library if I don't watch it.

This sounds like me! I have to be careful also. I often look around to see if the other library patrons are checking out many books and I have not seen one person checking out a ton of books like I do. I once had like 35 things checked out!!

Yes, Mrs. Turner and I have the same problem in libraries. We usually have to use a basket or two to carry the books out of the library.

A library lending grace period is one I have not heard before. Our library lets us keep books for 4 weeks and dvd's for 1 week. The only grace period, I guess you could call. Is if the books are put in the outside drop box and picked up the next day of business at open then they are not considered to be late.

The grace period was in effect for a long time here. I kind of liked it. I know that it's the same length of time (three weeks versus two weeks plus a week of grace time), but it just seemed better to have a grace period.

Our library has a 3 week lending period and you can renew up to three times either online or in person. I personally havent borrowed books in a little over a year and a half since i bought a ebook reader. I usually am finished a book within a week and return it..but i know others will take months to finish a book.

I've read books that took a long time to finish, but usually I read at least one a week. If I'd just remember that when I go to the library and quit bringing home a half dozen at a time...

Hi there! It's been a long time since I have been into a library but then if I can remember it right, it would be two weeks of lending books. as of dvd or vcd tapes in video rentals, it might sound the same or three weeks the most. I like reading before, but nowadays, I don't have much time on reading books. The ones I read most are online ones, one of which are mylot posts!

I know what you mean. I spend so much time reading on the computer that I don't have much time to read real books any more. I do still go to the library, though, and read a book now and then. It sounds like your library does about the same as most others.

The library I had in my campus allows students to borrow books for a maximum of two weeks and you would have to return it or they will charge you about 3 cents per day for each book due. When the charges reaches 1.70 us dollars, you would not be able to borrow any books unless you pay the amount due. You would also not be able to get your results if you didn't clear the charges beforehand. Of course, it would be best for us to return the books before due date as other readers may need the reading material as well. Be considerate guys.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can borrow any books here if you owe anything. You have to pay them first for any overdue books. You're right, though, it would be best to return the books before they're due.

Our library allow us to keep it for one to two weeks and needed to return after lending period or else you will get charged. Two weeks for me is long enough to read a book especially I only lend books in our library when I need a confirmation for my research.

I borrow books to read for pleasure, but you're right; two weeks is long enough to read a book. My problem is that I find too many I want to read, and I can't read all of them in two weeks!

When I was in college, the library allows us 3 months to keep the book, and after one week one can rerurn the book if he reads fast. Three weeks is OK;just take your time to read them carefully.
