what kind of job do you have?

i work a professional job in a retail setting and i find it really annoying. i have the job security of working for a big corporation, but get stuck working horrible hours. the hardest part of my job is trying to keep my sales quota where it's supposed to be and help on the floor due to the lack of coverage. it kills me about customers though. managers will always tell you that the customer is always right, but i truly beg to differ. i hate when you try your best to offer help and people are ungrateful to your efforts. i had this customer today at work that really worked my nerves! she saw that i was passing by an area to drop off some paperwork and the associate in that area was busy on the phone. she asked me if i could help and i asked her what she needed assistance with. she just kept telling me if i could help her. after answering the same question six times, she finally told me what she needed. i brought her to the merchandise and explained the application process and gave her pricing. she asked me for something else that was right behind her. i showed it to her and she started snapping her fingers at me and demanding that i place it in her hand. i don't know about you, but there is no reason why i should have to go this far for customer service. i guarantee you, no one else is making this sort of effort for me! but, i would be the one that was wrong if i walked away. now this may not seem to be that big a deal to you, but its the fact that i don't work that department and was never given any training on their items. i put an appointment of mine on hold and instead of her saying thank you for helping me, she just kept snapping her fingers at me...... any horror stories from work?

Don't feel bad, or at least take comfort in a fact that there's somebody out there in a same boat you're... I work in retail box as well... I get that all the time... Usually I try to play head games with people like that... I had a customer almost identical to yours... She asked me where something was so I told her, "if you look up, there are signs everywhere... Let me see if I can see better than you, oh, there it is..." After that, she started curling up a finger & says, "could you walk me over & show me?" So I kindly explained to her as I'm walking her over, how I haven't completely recovered my my heart surgery & all these walking is such a burden on my heart so I have to stop every few steps to take a rest but she's welcome to just walk ahead & go where I showed her if I happen to fall behind or she can bear with me if she has 45 minutes to an hour so I can catch up & walk her over... Make a game out of it... Have some fun... Don't let them bring you down... I rarely get pissed at work because I try to make fun of everyone who gets under my skin... Best part is, those people don't even know I'm making fun of them...

Oh I believe she’s just one of those constipated types who never have a good morning and take it out on others throughout the day. Don’t laugh….I know these types. You’ll never see them with a smile, they are forever finding fault with others and expecting others to bend backwards to accommodate them. Ignore such types as much as you can (but in a job you cant, I know). As for me, I don’t have the security of a good company but am happy where I am. My company is very small but since it manages to pay me, I am here for 10 years now. Yes! I love the timings of 10am to 6pm and with the weekend off, it’s a deal for the job insecurity.

I don't have any horror story's but the title of your discussion is what kind of job do you have I figure it is alright to respond with I like my job. I work with school age kids in a after school program as a aide. I work three hours a day and wish it was more hours. My Dad had a business and Mom worked in it. Mom always said the customer is always right. But the way I saw a few of her customers treat her after her going that extra mile I will have to say that it is a good thing I don't work in a department store or any place where a person has to put up with bad customers. I have the type of personality that I would end up being fired. Because if I am right and have tried to soothe a customer who I know is wrong and they are still being jerks I am afraid that the customer would end up being told that he/she is wrong. Mom told me you can't do that and you see I decided not to go in that profession.

i think the worst customer that i ever encountered was when i was working the register at jcpenney during christmas. she grabbed the wrong item off the shelf, walked out without paying and then tried to get a refund. when i refused, she threatened to climb over the counter and stab me. security was already there since i had given a description of her when she first left. he escorted her out of the store and told her she was banned. she stood outside of my department, banging on the glass for the rest of the day.

i also work in customer service. we handle after sales concern for auto financing. i understand what you're saying. customers trying to get what they want but since you have limited resources & policies, it appears to them that you're not helping them when you're already exhausting all the options that you can think of. sometimes i can't help but to raise my voice if a customer becomes stubborn. i know it's not right but some customers need to feel that you're right. i guess we both feel the same way about giving others the service they need but not getting anything in return.

I worked in customer service at the mall and also at a retail store in the same mall - I don't remember feeling annoyed or unhappy. I knew both of those jobs were temporary though because I was moving so my situation was a lot different. Is there a way you can change your situation? After working at a bank (and disliking it) I finally took the plunge and become a writer. Now I work from home... If work makes you feel so unhappy maybe you can start working towards something else? If you were doing something like building a career online or looking for another job that is better suited for you, it is a lot easier to ignore people who are VERY annoying. And it certainly does sound like you deal with your share.

I think some people suffered frrom the horror of over time working hour. Last year I used to rush projects in my work place, but I really felt tired of it, so nowadays, I will avoid OT as I can. Better relax nyself at home.
