Looking through a telescope at stars and scenes....

I had a neighbor who used to share her telescope with me whenever some big event like an eclipse, a meteor shower or something else occurred.
I remember also looking through the telescopes on top of the Empire State Building when I was a child and seeing lines of bright yellow cabs all waiting for their fares... That sight was amazing to me.
Have you ever looked through a telescope at the sky?
What did you see?
Have you ever looked through a telescope at a scene below you or in the distance?
What did you see?

I have one, an old model belonging to my grandpa. It is bit heavy and less convenient to carry but the lenses are very powerful. I could look through it and discover some brawls going on in a family through a window some kms way! Star gazing is another thing I love to do. It ca actually transport me a different planet altogether. However, these days I am so much inundated that I can only relish the old memories. I must do it this weekend.
Thanks for a lovely discussion.

This is let you know that on Saturday night, my mom and i had a fight over some distant roundish, fiery object on the sky. I was sure it was the moon and my mom thought it for some other celestial body. we kept watch almost the whole night only to discover that it's but the moon!!

It was a nice part of the moon...
Probably it had no intent to spark an argument between the two of you... grins.
Thanks for posting about it.

Thanks for sharing about your telescope. It is wonderful that the one you have holds such a great history. I am sorry about the brawls in that other household even though it did give you something to look at... Hoping that next time you will see something more fun, cute, funny, or ?
I am hoping that you see many stars when you go out stargazing and other things as well.
Thanks for posting. I appreciate it.

You might want to see if there are any observatories or planetariums in your area as then you would not have to have your own telescope as it would be provided for you and you could perhaps see the sky unfold before you in a way that you have not before.
I hope that there are some in your area.

One of my sisters used to have a big telescope before in order to see lots of neat stars up in the sky. These things are really awesome. Right? Hey, if I have lots of leftover money on hand, I will be able to purchase myself a big one in order for me to set it up outside to look at stars and the moon. Right?

I hope that you soon have more than enough left over money and can purchase anything you want even a telescope if you want to.

I must admit that often I had difficulty seeing through it at first... monovision ... looking through the telescope, saw stars once but did not quite see what I hoped to see because of the light pollution through my neighbor's telescope.
I wound up putting a bit of money in those telescopes mounted over scenic views at turnouts... got my eye next to the telescope, aimed the telescope in various directions and proceeded to see the ocean at one place, a mountain scene at another, a gorge at another, etc. It seems to be a way for the parks, etc. to make a little money from the sightseers.

When I looked through this telescope it was in the morning so no stars, but it was in the mountain and a small waterfall from the distance.. it was nice!
