I prefer to read the book before watching the movie. I almost always read the book first. I like to be able to use my imagination to create what I think the characters and settings look like.
The books and movies are always a little different, so I like to compare the two. I like to see what difference I can notice when I watch the movie. Sometimes there are just the little things and other times there are huge differences.

Most of the time, the book is far better than the movie. I like reading books a lot, and like watching movies as well. But most of the books I read, when brought to the movie, I still watch it so compare, and i can't remember a single time i prefered movie.. book is always far the best. So yes, I'd rather read the book first and watch the film, mostly to criticize it hahaha.. The Da Vinci code for instance, the book is far better, movie doesn't even come close, although in the film, you can visually see the places.. in which just described in the book. In my opinion Brown stil described it better than the movie showing the actual place. In my opinion, if it's just wasnt Tom Hanks playing, the movie would flap.

i would rather watch the film before reading the book. it's not so much about being interested in the book. rather it's the amount of details that would be missing from the film. there are a lot of books that has been done in films. however i think not many had done a good job. then again it can be understood as books are with so much details but a film can only last so many hours. even LOTR, which spans three movies lasting at least 3 hours each missed out some details too.

Hello there... eventhough i really love to read, i like it more when there is a movie adaptation of the novel, since the effects and CGI used can emphasis and put drama to the words. make them come alive.
I just watched Indiana Jones and I am looking forward to watch the Chronicles of Narnia 2, entitled, "Prince Caspian", a wonderful book by C. S. Lewis.

I usually like to read the book version first as I like to imagine what the characters look like in my head. I like that fact that reading books lets you form your own personal images of places, atmospheres and people. When the film comes out I usually want to see it to find out how the film-maker's version compares to the book and to the pictures I've formed in my head.
If I see a film first then I know the story already more or less, so I don't really want to spend time reading the book as well. As I'll imagine the characters just as I've seen them in the film it will be just like seeing the film again and it doesn't appeal to me to do this.

Personally, I would ather read the book first, get the whole store, then watch the film to see how closely related to the book it was. I think one can get more into a book, than they can into a two-to-four hour movie.

Hi there kenchiprincess!
I like reading books too and I have experienced that usually, it is better in the book rather than its film version save for a few exceptions.
I would liek to read the book first before watching the film.

It's easier for me to "read between the lines" in a book than a movie :) I always catch more meaning in books, so I'd rather read the book before watching the movie. Unless it's an action movie... it's really boring to try to read your way through well-choreographed fight scenes.

Sometimes seeing a movie will make me want to read the book from which it was taken but usually I read books and then watch the movie adaptation.
When I am reading I am imagining the characters in the way they are described and have my own picture in my mind of what they look like and how they act. Seeing an actor or actress on the screen can be disappointing if they do not match up to my idea of the character. If I watch it on film first I am seeing the actor in my mind when I read the book.

I love reading more to watchin the book on the film version.First thing is that when i read, i can feel it, the emotions, fear, tensions, love, hate n every expressions can be experienced while i am reading but when i watch it i cant know whats on the actors mind except for a few facial expressions.
I'd rather read first and than watch the movie and thats waht ive been doing all these while.but there are some disappointment with the movie esp whn the book is so well written and if the movie dont depict it all.
Read and than watch

Well, as for me, actually I think it was more what came first or should I say I saw the books first I read it first and vice versa. However, usually I saw and read the book first before I watched it such as Harry Potter, Da Vinci Code, Stardust, etc. But there are also instances that I happen to watched it first and I'll discovered that it was based on a book. So if it is really interesting and I am curious enough to know the book version I'll read it after. Knowing that movies that are based on books or novels are much better on books, because it's more detailed. Movies that I read after I watched it are;A walk to remember, Pride and Prejudice, etc. :D

There are books that I can't stand to read but I do love the movie (or tv show) For example: I picked up a copy of a Jessica Fletcher mystery once. I just couldn't get through it. But I do like to watch a rerun of the show once in a while.

I would rather read the book first. Film adaptations usually change things to help the visual qualities of the movie and to fit the story into 2-3 hours. There's a lot of interpretation going on by the director, actors and others involved with the making the movie. If I see the movie first the changes and the interpretations affect my reading experience. I'd rather experience the author's telling of the story directly, especially since I spend much more time reading the book than watching the movie. If I see the movie second, it becomes fun to compare my vision of the story with the movie's, and the movie becomes a fuller experience because I know more details about the story that didn't get into the movie.

I don't have specific rule for that. Sometimes I read the book first, but sometimes I watch the movie first. Like when I watched "The Golden Compass", I found the movie was so great with all magical characters and everything that made me curious to read the book. I read all the complete story (all 3 books), but felt disappointed because the movie was better and the concept of the story on the book seemed to get blurry as the story approaching it's end :-(
Still, I would love to see the sequel movie. I really adore that speaking polar bear character :-)

Greetings kenchiprincess.
I am with you. I prefer to read the book first and then see the movie. I must admit that, many times, I am disappointed in the film version because they leave out something or a character that I really like. They just can't portray in a couple of hours what a book can say (unless it's a really short one).

Hmmm... It really depends. :)
I have not read Harry Potter 1, but I watched the movie, it was after watching the movie that I vowed to read Harry Potter. So, since then I tried to read ahead of time. But my experience with HP1, somehow has been helpful, it helped me play even better with my imagination. :)

For me it depends on the book. I take the Harry Potter series as an example. Since I already know the actors and the general setting, I read the book first and let my mind make my own movie.
But for some books, reading them first would help to understand it better, it happen to me with "The Da Vinci Code".
