Your Kid Has A Problem, Are You A Good Listener??

When your child approaches you during a busy day, because he has some problems and he wants your advice, what would you do? Would you shun him off and tell him the "can't you see I'm busy" line?...or you're the kind of parent who would put down whatever it is your doing and listen intently to what he has to say.
I admit that sometimes when I'm very busy writing my blogs and I don't want my train of thought cut off, I tell my son to do something else for the meantime and I'll get back to him later. Not knowing that he has a problem that needs to be fixed immediately. Only to be sorry later on because he doesn't want to talk to me anymore..
If you're in the same situation, what would you do?

There is NOTHING more important in this world than my son! (You touched a nerve) His problems, are MY problems, there are times that I can't solve his problems, but just by listening at the time he needs me, the problems seem to diminish in magnitude!
My son is 27....I gave him wings to fly....but I'll always be here as a SOFT place for him to land!
Even we, when given the opportunity to share are problems with a good & caring listener...find they diminish, and sometimes by talking, we come up with our own solutions!
A great discussion topic! Thanks! And Rainbows to you!

What are we for? Our children, our family. My priority for my son only always, in the given situation. First solve his problem and make him happy. then only other material things!

yea, i know sometimes you might be really busy.. but its RARE that kids nowadays come to you for help. Im a teenager and i talk to my mum about my problems because she always listen.
if you dont listen to your son, he will turn to his friends and rely on them more than they will rely on you.. yoyu dont want that to happen right?
if i was in your situation, i would go to him and apologise, say you didnt mean it, sit down beside him, hug him and ask him whats was the problem? or maybe ask him out and as you guys walk, talk abt the problems..

thanks for responding to my post. I'm glad to hear a teenager's point of view. I did realize at that time that I somehow hurt my son's feelings so I went up to him and apologized and talked things over. I really appreciate your insights. Even though my son is only 8, I definitely don't want him to seek the advice of his friends first before me..So, thanks so much..

I think if I was doing my work at home ,I will stop right then.Because for me ,my child is my whole world ,and I do everything just for him .Besides I think we should not take work back home to do .And we also need to spare some time each day to chat with children ...So i think this kind of situation will be few, isn't it?

if i am with a person who need my ears to listen to them.. i will have time, make time for it. it is important for me that the person i am with, whether my child, partner, love, parents, family, relatives or friends, i will always try to be there for them.
