Eight days ago hubby had seizures just before he needed to get up and go to work. We spent that day getting tests done. We finally got the EEG results which do show an abnormality. He did have seizures. We will have to see a neurologist. I am glad it is not cancer, like Teddy Kennedy, but this may make some changes in our lives. Tell me your experiences with seizures.

I hope that you get things straightened out and glad they did not find cancer. I have a friend that has seizures and they cannot figure out what is causing them.

We are personally working on getting more rest, eating better. Those things sure will not hurt.

He is much better. I think this is a wake up call that he has to take better care of himself. Our neurology appointment is in July. The 30th.

I am so sorry to hear about your husband. Hopefully, they will find the cause and it will be something that is treatable.
When my son was in 2nd grade they thought he might be having a type of seizure, he would just suddenly "blank out" for several minutes and have no idea about what was going on or had happened around him. This happened twice in school so we had a complete workup done on him - blood tests, EKG, EEG, MRI, MRA, and genetic tests.
After all of that; the doctors decided the cause was just plain stress. His brain would become overloaded and just stop processing outside input for a while. They said he would grow out of it and he did. So we were very lucky.

Good to hear. We do put our kiddos under a lot of stress anymore. The workups are a good precaution, though.

We were all worried that it might be a form of epilepsy. There is a type where the person just "blanks out" for a few minutes.
After everything else was ruled out, they decided it was just too much "input" into an immature nervous system and time would take care of that which it did.
They diod give him copies of his MRI though so he had "proof" that he does have "something up there" and it made for a good "show and tell".
Hope they have as good luck with your husband's problem!

Wow, that is scary. My mom has had seizures. They did a scan of her brain and saw places they thought were mini strokes. After a lot of tests they determined they weren't mini strokes. Her seizures led to a really strange pattern of migraines, and they put her on meds to prevent them. Unfortunately that caused memory loss, so now she is just really careful to look for signs of trouble.

Thanks for the response. I was wondering about the migraines. He does not get them, but I wondered if this was something that might happen instead of a migraine. We will see a neurologist at the end of July. Hubby feels great. I am making sure he gets more sleep, though, and eating better.

Hi GardenGerty. I have a severely ill child and just this past January he went into a seizure that ended up lasting 2 hours. He had to be life flighted to Ruby Memorial Hospital. He suffered 3 strokes during the seizure and after that he had respiratory distress and ended up with a trach to breathe, he now requires oxygen constantly as well. Seizures are a scary thing and nothing to just blow off, so please make sure he goes to see a doctor to keep them under control. I wish you the best. Hugs....Aly

I have not seen you around in a while, and that explains why.We have been to the doctor, and have had a CAT scan, EEG, and bloodwork. Our doctor is setting us up with a referral to a neurologist, after Memorial Day. The technician could not induce a seizure while using the strobes on him. I have worked with kids that were that severely ill and that have had strokes either just before or just after birth. I really feel sympathy for you.

My husband had his first seizure almost two years ago, we found out that he has a brain tumor. It is not cancer thank God. He had been doing so well for a long time, his last EEG showed everything was fine, so they took him off Dilantin. Last week he had another seizure, so we are back on the medication and back to do tests again to make sure the tumor hasn't grown. I am just glad it isn't cancer, and that he is still healthy otherwise.

We are hoping that this is isolated. We have already been told there is not any sign of a tumor. I am sorry about your husband.

I've no experience of seizures, but I wanted to respond anyway just to wish your husband and yourself the best of luck with the neurologist. I do hope you get to the cause of the seizures quickly and it turns out to be nothing too serious.

Must not be anything too serious on the EEG, as we are not going to even see the neurologist til the end of July.
