Here in our country, there is currently an issue that the nursing curriculum which is presently a four-year course is now being subjected to change to a 5-year course. What is your opinion about this issue? For the students - would you want another year of studying (and maybe hardships)? For the parents - Would you want your child to study more? Will you agree to the fees that you are about to spend as your child goes to school?

I have heard about this in the news. I think they gonna add another 42 units (please correct if this is wrong) or another 3 summer semester. I think this is only rightful, since the profession of nurse is very in demand in abroad. We should upgrade our curriculum to match or conform to the criteria of other countries. I also do agree with the added units for internship where they could spend more time in the hospital works.

thanks for this opinion...I just don't think that my batch would be included in the changed curriculum..I think it is intended only to incoming freshmen.. Yes, the nurses from the Philippines should all be polished as to be globally competitive so that other nations would want to accept them..

I think the general trend across the board is that health professions programs are getting longer. There is just too much material to learn. While I don't mind an extra year, I think we have to be careful. Medical schools has stayed a four year program because instructors focused on helping you learn to teach yourself. Other health professions educators should be focusing on getting their students to a point where they can keep learning for the rest of their lives. Healthcare is a continuously changing field.

thanks for opening me up with that viewpoint, and I agree with you..learners are to continue learning as there are many more advances to every field of interests and that technological advances are clearly solving more and more problems so the beginners should also learn those things to..
