In a long term relationship.....Do you think it is harder being the one breaking up with someone or the person who is dumped?

I think it's harder to be the person who is dumped because the person doing the breaking up is moving on but the person who is dumped is being left behind with all of the memories, disappointments and what if. Plus, if the person being dumped had no idea it was coming it's a shock while the person leaving had already accepted the situation and was used to the idea.

I agree with you but I have heard some people say that it's harder ending the relationship. I guess it's not easy to break someones heart that you care about but I think there is nothing worse than a broken heart!

Both side will have the same dilemma. The difference is just the timing. The one who dumps will be the first one, he will bear this burden until he makes the dump. After the dump, the one who is being dumped will suffer from the separation. The long the relationship, the great the burden will become.

I think that it it all depends on the two people involved. Some people have been dumped and some people have been the dumpee. Some people have been both. If you have experienced either or a lot then of course you will be more adapt to the feelings and be able to control your emotions better.
Either way, of course, no one person can be completely cold to feelings.

usually, it's the person who is dumped.. cuz the one breaking up with someone already has reasons why s/he would wanna break up.. and since it's been a long term relationship, the person who got dumped would usually be the one who'll get hurt..

I think it depends on the reason behind such break-up. However, more often than not, the one being dumped suffer the most, for he usually tends to lose not just the person he loves; he also loses self-esteem, and once a person stops believing in himself, he then begins to lose faith in love.
