On my way to a bank this morning I ran across a speed trap set up by a small city police department. Not your typical speed trap though. As I was driving down the street which is 45 MPH I saw someone standing in the middle of the road in the opposite lane. Then as I got closer I could see it was a police office. He had a radar gun in one hand and standing in the middle of the road in the traffic lane he was motioning for the car to turn the corner and pull over. Litterallly in the middle of a road with a sped limit of 45 MPH and pulling over speeders by hand. His squad car was parked around the corner out of sight. Unreal I think. tHEN ON MY WAY BACK HE DID THE SAME THING WITH A CAR IN FRONT OF ME THAT WAS DOING ALMOST 60 mph. Ever see a speed trap like this one I saw today? Have you ever been coaught in a speed trap? I have and it was just recently. A couple of miles fro my home on my street as well. 52 in a 40 was my ticket. $135 I think was the fine. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I've never seen a speed trap like this before. I've seen the regular speed traps where they sit somewhere kind of out of the way and check on those that are driving by. I was speeding and I'm sure he could have pulled me over but he didn't for some odd reason. Thankfully I've never been pulled over for speeding or anything like that.

I was thinking, these cars are going over 50 MPH to get a ticket and he stands there in the middle of the lane to stop these cars? Unreal. Personally I think they are idiots, as there are so mnay officers getting hit along side the highways going to and from cars they've pulled over. The ticket I got was the typical hidden car behind trees etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

They prefer to go for the people who are really speeding because they farther over the speed limit you are the more money the city makes off of the ticket.

I suppose I should add that the faster you are going the more of a danger you are to yourself and others. ;)

I know working as a dispatcher, you may think I am biased.. BUT I have always felt that speed trap or not, if you're speeding and get busted.. well you were breaking the law. I have sped many times, got a ticket for something I didn't do once, but I figured as many times as I wasn't stopped, why bother arguing...lol. I don't know why he was out there stopping people by hand, that sounds strange...

I totally agree with you but the main story here is not ablout me speeding. It was a trap I witnessed today. The time I got caught was a typical trap not a cop standing in the middle of the raod. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I know, my comment wasn't directed towards you speeding, just speeding in general. I have never witnessed nor do any of our officers here stand in the street to stop vehicles. The only time they are on foot or bicycle patrol is during fair times and bar checks nightly.. not stopping cars in the middle of the road !!

Are you sure it was Police? Maybe someone was making quick money. Did he asked you for cash? Do you have to go to school to keep clean record?

$135... ouch. I see the speed trap that you describe here all the time in my area. It is usually two cops working together. I have lived here for sometime now and have learned the type areas that they tend to do this in so I don't fall for it. But I see it working out for them all the time.

Hi GRANDPA BOB! I haven't seen one like it before. But that is such a heavy fine for speeding. $135? Wow! Way too much for me, if that is the fine here in our country..I don't think people wouldn't be speeding anymore. haha.. Take Care and God Bless! Happy Mylotting!

No, I can't say I have seen a speed trap like that..The officer is brave to be standing there without protection of his car, as far as he knows, the person he is trying to pull over by hand will just hit him and run, people are crazy today.. And no, I have not fallen into a speed trap, I don't speed..

Brave? I think foolish or even stupid actually. But it works as the cars I saw him flagging down did pull over. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

This officer knows where to catch the speeders and the car is around the corner(knowing it they see the car they will try to slow down). That is smart move but the first time that i have every heard that an officer was out of the car and on foot. I guess that way they will not speed of cause they could hit the officer by mistake. Now you know be careful when you are driving cause they are out there waiting to give you a ticket.

When my husband was alive, we had an international harvester pickup and several times we have seen police offices hiding behind a sign then catch an unwary person speeding and on one of our junkets my husband failed to remember where this guy was hiding. so on our way back home he'was driving pretty fast and allof a sudden Mr Motorcyle cop was right on us. My hubby had a glibe tongue but this cop had grey hair and had heard it all. the result a ticket for sixty five in a forty zone and the silly pickup could just barely do that sixty five. okay so my husband decided to fight the ticket. oh yeah well they let him show how fast he thought he was going and un huh fifty in a forty zone so he had to pay the ticket of one twenty five dollars, out of my own savings. needless to say my hubby heard about that one for awhile and finally he repaid me lol
