How can parents let a child starve?

May 23, 2008 2:23am CST
I have been listening to the news yesterday and today and I still can not believe that in the UK in 2008 it is possible for a 6 year old little girl to die of starvation. How is it possible? Why did someone not notice that this girl and her brothers and sisters were not around? What kind of world do we now live in? this wouldn't have happened years ago when everyone knew their neighbours. What does everyone els think?

I'm not sure where you live but I live in the USA in Connecticut. I remember growing up playing outside knowing every neighbor and so forth. Now adays, with children of my own, I dont dare send them outside alone! It is really sad what this world is coming to. I dont understand how a little girl like that can die from something like that! It's not fair.

Hi therer I live in London UK, this little girl lived in Birmingham,UK, She lived with her mother not sure if her father was on the scene but she had aunties and uncles who lived in the neighbourhood as well.I just think its so sad that we have become so wrapped up in our own lives that we fail to spot someone who needs help. Apparently this little girl and her siblings used to sneak out so that they could eat the bread that neighbours had put out for the birds. The little girls siblings are in hospital very ill,god bless them.
