Will gas prices keep you from going on vacation this year?

Will the rising gas prices keep you from going on vacation this year? We are not going to be able to go anywhere. My parents have a time share in Pigeon Forge but we can't afford the gas to get there and back. It is really sad that we can't go because I am sure the CEO's of Exxon and the other brands will get to go because they are making a killing off of us! Something just isn't right about that picture.

With the billions of dollars of profit made by oil companies this year, you can feel assured that the CEO's families will be taking vacations this year. They probably smile all the way to the pump, as my dear MIL often says. Unfortunately, our vacation plans this summer revolve around basketball tournaments. Normally, we would plan at least a day or two extended to a tournament that is being held in an interesting location, but this summer we will be cutting corners where ever we can. The money that we would normally be able to spend on an extra night at hotel or restaurants/entertainment, will be filling the hungry gas tank.

we won't really be going anywhere this year. the only trip we have planned is to visit my best friend about 8 hours away. we saved some of our tax refund so we could afford to go. we'll be staying with her so gas and helping with food is about the only things we'll have to pay for. i sent for a vacation book for our state so we could find some things to do close to home.

Yes, for the most part. I'm sure I would be taking more day trips at least if the gas were not so expensive. It breaks my heart. I love to travel.

Sorry to hear that gas prices will keep you away frm such a lovely place. I am traveling in a group and we've had plane reservations for some time now, so I don't expect we will have a problem there, however we have been doing some serious negotiations with hotels and they have been pretty good about prices and incentives. I guess they are feeling the lack of visitors as well. I think you are right about them getting rich off us. The gas station near my house seems to raise the price twice a day. I can't believe we are still so dependent on gas. It's time someone came up with something else.

Our vacation will be spent visiting with our children and grandchildren - we're making one big round trip and spending a couple of days at each place, and then back up through Iowa to visit my sister on the way home. It would be nice to take separate trips and be able to spend more time with each family, but with gas prices what they are, one trip will have to cover all.

Yes I agree with you...as the gas prices go up, we need to sacrifice for other things like vacation. But I am single and I do not have a car and kids. I have little effect on the high soar of the gas but I am sympathy with people who had to suffer for the increase of the gas price. What can we do..is try to save as much as possible and put the money into the vacation funds. This means that we can still go for vacation but we need to sacrifice. Right??

I can't afford a vacation. My family can't afford to come here like they had planned. They were supposed to come in June but now they can't. That sucks cause they only come once a year anyway.

I am one of those lucky people who has two homes; one in Canada, and one in the USA, so every few months I get to travel to one place or another. My idea of a vacation is just taking the opportunity to relax. Maybe in a bit, when my husband's job settles down a bit, we will go somewhere else, but for now we're happy traveling back and forth. Gas prices be darned, with our situation as it is, we really have no choice but to rael, and we love it!
