Update On My Mom 5-23-08

Sorry for not being on here yesterday!! I've been through hell and am back again... I'm so exhausted and can't go to bed and I'll tell you why in a moment but first this is what went on. Dad had his surgery to have cancer removed from his face on Wednesday. Yesterday he woke up sick as a dog and unable to drive so I offered to pick him up and take him to see mom with me. He agreed. What a mistake. He was so sick and coughing his head off the whole way there. I almost turned around and took him back home but I didn't. We could stay for about an hour before dad just couldn't stand it anymore so we left. Mom was in ok spirits, not good but not bad either however, she was put back on the ventilator because when she deep sleeps, she forgets to breathe for too long of a period. BUT the way it was explained to me, it was set on 6 but she's doing 12 which is twice as much as the ventilator is doing!! Which is a GOOD thing but still it put a damper on my day because she's back on it again. Anyway got dad home and did some chores around his house and got ready to leave and asked him in different ways to see if he wanted me to come back and finally got the scary truth out of him, he didn't feel comfortable being alone because he couldn't catch his breath!! He has a heart condition, diabetes and HAD lung cancer so you can only imagine my fear!! I called his neighbor and asked for him to sit with dad till I got back because I had to go home and feed my fur babies and bring my dogs with me to dads for the night. I got back, dad had gone to bed after taking some cough medicine and his pain killers and said he was feeling better. I told him that I was on the couch if he needed anything (like I'd hear him if he did holler!) needless to say, I didn't get much sleep last night because I was so afraid he'd have a heart attack which will take him because 1. He’s had so many before that he has just a little bit of his heart working 2. Because he only has one valve left to his heart, all the others are all blocked!! I was petrified all night long!! When he woke up this morning he said he felt much better than he did yesterday. Whew!! What a relief!! So I cleaned his house quite a bit and then went home to get my chores done and get a shower to go see my mom. Saw mom and she's doing great!! She's still hooked up to the ventilator but it's only on a pressure sort of thing just in case she forgets to breathe but she's doing all the breathing on her own!! She's in such high spirits and smiling the whole time!! It was truly wonderful to see her in such a way!! She even tried to write a few times and some of it was legible but mostly not but good thing I can read lips!! LOL That's the up side of being legally deaf, huh? hee hee!! Well, hubby and I were going to bed early tonight because we're both just plain exhausted, he just got back from seeing his step dad an hour and a half away BUT we just got a phone call from my best friend, whom I next to never get to see because of my husband being in the Army which means moving here and there and yonder.... now that he's retired, we opted to live in NC instead of our home state which is VA, anyway, my best friend is on her way back from Myrtle Beach and is in NC now and wants directions to our house!! WHOA!! WHAT?! You've got to be kidding!! I had no idea she even went to Myrtle Beach and here she's coming to see us!! Oh my gosh!! So hubby and I are freaked out so we rush around to quick clean our house so it won't look like a pig lives here, although she'd understand knowing our situation but still, she's never been here before so we want it to look as nice as we can get it but too tired to do an all out cleaning job so we did the best we could and now she's probably about a half hour out. SOOOOO that said, I might not be on here for the next few days. I promise though that I'll keep you all updated on mom's progress when I get back. I'm excited to see my best friend!! Awesome!! I can't wait to take her to see mom and dad too!! They're going to be shocked silly and so happy to see her!! How cool is that?! Again, thank you from the top to the bottom of my heart for all your thoughts, prayers and support!! I couldn't have done it without you!! Love you guys!!!!
