I think the file which you are trying to delete is loaded in the memory, that is why you are getting error message. So you have to first unload it from memory by pressing control, alt and del key once. Then choose the file and select end process. Now you can try deleting it.

Is a file and I am getting an error message: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

I do not understand how you can have an "undeletable file". The only 2 possibilities that I can think of are: System files essential to Windows, which you do not want to delete. Files that are currently in use. If you have recently played a sound file and it is still linked to Media Player you would need to close Media Player before deleting the file. Please specify the type of file and what version of Windows you are using.

Personally, I take the quick and effective method, though a little advanced. Go into DOS Prompt and type in the following: ATTRIB -r -a -s -h C:\Program Files\Whatever\File.exe (Change the C:\... to the location of the file you want to delete) DEL C:\Program Files\Whatever\File.exe Done. That works with files that are Windows Operating Files so be careful. Also, if the program is running, be sure to end the task. Hit ctrl + alt + del and go into Task Manager. Go into Processes and make sure the file is not running.

You are right. But I am guessing that pzoliweb is not really much of a DOS person but could do it from within windows.

Good answer, but why bother with the attributes. If you are going to use DOS, it would be easier just to boot from a floppy disk and type "del C:\directory\file" where directory is the path to the file and file is the filename with extension.

If the read only attribute is set to on this still will not work. You will get an access denied from ms-dos.
