Most of the gmail users uses IE or Firefox or equivalent to open their email and send to somebody. You need to open internet, log to your account then presto you have your email open. But for me, I was accessing my gmail account via Windows Mail ( Vista, can be done in outlook if not vista ).So in the morning, instead of opening IE or firefox, I was just click my Windows Mail, its easy and have saved the process. All you have to do is to configure your gmail account and allow pop download features.

I agreed that firefox is better than IE, I used it for a week to see if it really better than IE and I would say it is. I was using IE since it is the default in my Vista, some of the features was upgraded like tab features, etc. But for some reasons, it mostly hang and sometimes encountered error with it.

Hi Agihcam, I'm relatively new to gmail and not aware that gmail has pop3 features. I'm using outlook express and used the free pop3 mail offered by my ISP. This way I would have access to my emails faster and wont interfere with my regular browsing. Could you teach me to set it up using outlook express? Thanks in advance.

Even I use a similar kinda application called "Mail" in Leopard. It automatically connects to the server and keeps getting information about the mail status. It's a very nice way indeed, but for a person like me, who does other things also on the net, this can get a bit bandwidth consuming. So I prefer to save my ID and Password on the Safari browser and as soon as I type in mail, the inbox comes on. This way It's faster and I do not have to type it each time. Also, it's safe because no one in the house hold uses my laptop to access the internet. They do it from the desktop.

Always firefox for me. I haven't used anything but firefox for anything for years. I won't be switching anytime soon or probably ever again. I love firefox and will continue to use it for gmail and everything else.

That is good for you since ie is faster in your machine and this way you are more comfortable with. But just in case you did encountered error in ie,I have experienced that no matter what you do to open ie, it opens for few minutes but suddenly disappear. When you see your task manager you will notice that ieexplorer is running but you cannot see it somewhere. That means it is affected by a virus or something, the fix I've done for this kind of error is to open the ie as administrator ( just for everybody's awareness ). The discussion here we are talking about is to open the gmail account without opening the email thru firefox or ie but use outlook, outlook express or windows mail instead.Anyway, thanks for sharing what is your preferred ways of accessing your gmail email.

I use firefox to access my gmail. This way I can get it from anywhere and dont have to worry about using a certain computer to open my mail. I use IE only when i absolutely have to.

I feel like checking my gmail via firefox. Somehow in my computer internet explorer is slow and some times it hangs. I prefer to use firefox instead of IE. I haven't tried Vista yet...
