I have not used Winamp for many years now and had almost forgotten about it. There was a time when Winamp was a very popular player, but many computers now have decent audio players and Winamp seems a little superfluous.
I use Creative Playcentre, which came with the sound card in my computer. The Windows Media Centre in Vista is actually better than many players and well worth using.

I think winamp is still among the popular music players, atleast among the freeware music players.

I usually use WinAmp when I use Windows. But now my operating sytem's Ubuntu. But I still choose the program the same with WinAmp's interface. If you have heard about XMMS then that's the program I'm talking about. :)

I do not like winamp because I do not think it is very user friendly. I used to use Musicmatch Jukebox, but they have joined up with Yahoo (I think it was) and changed their players to not provide the same things for free anymore, so now I am not using them either.
Since I haven't found a good one, I am using winamp in the meantime! I'll have a close look in this discussion to see if I can get a tip about another one too!

I have been using Real Player for almost 10 years.
I purchased the full version in 2001 for $19.99 and I have been getting free updates ever since.
Microsoft did copy the design of Real Player for its Media Player. That should tell you something about how good Real Player is.

I have used Winamp wayback 1998. Just because you've mentioned it, I'm now downloading the latest version.

I have winamp as my default music player as well. I find it has more ability to open files where as media player tends to seize up on some music files. I've also tried real player but i hate their message centre and having to sign up for an account with them.
I'm pretty sure cyberlink power dvd will open music (acutally its what my dad uses) as well as VLC seems to open them.

I'm using winamp as my default music player. I have tried so many, usually for more visually appealing style and functions but I keep on coming back to winamp. I love is simple controls, stylish panel and now with album art. I only wish is has iTune's flipping album art, that would make my winamp complete.
