If you had an experience like that can you please share. and also how you handled it. Yesterday people from a chinese restr. went through out neighborhood putting brochures advertising their restr. in everyone's mailbox. I am not really sure if there is anything I can do about it. Is it okay for that or is it illegal? Please share your experiences.

I guess it it depends on the laws of your country, here in Australia anyone can put what we call junkmail in your letter box unless you have a - no junkmail sign it, I love my junkmail but i guess different countries have different laws.

Mailbox - That is paid for and maintained by the resident, but owned by the postal service.
Here in the United States you cannot do that.Once you purchase a mailbox, you must maintain it,but it is automatically property of the Postal Service. And see this is also what I don't understand if we receive junk mail online that we did not ask for then it is considered spam and we can be fined and even block from internet service for doing it.But,we have to receive our junk mail via the snail mail,as it's called.I told our mailman not to give me the junk mail because I could not afford to go and buy this stuff anyway and was told that if it was sent to our address they have to deliver it or they can loose their jobs and be fined also. The only way not to get it.Is to call each individual place and ask to be removed from their mailing list.

Postman - A person that delivers mail
Well,I was just trying to try and spare the mailman from having to carry more and deliver more, because I can't afford it anyway.

Here in the Philippines, it's okay if someone puts junkmail in the maiolbox as long as they don't get your own mail. the law here is not as strict as the US whenit comes to junkmailing but it is more strict in the postal office where some credit cards are stolen by the other post office employees. it's really sad to read the news about that but i think that's life but the one who did that really have to be put in jail.

I know when we lived in california they wouldn't be allowed to do that in the area we were. you could put it on the peoples doors or near the mailbox but you couldn't put it in the mailboxes. I don't know how it is in South Carolina.

Here in the United States it is against the law, if you live here you can call your postal office and tell them what the number is to the restaurant and they will notify them. It is something that businesses can be fined for. My son delivered newspapers and even when delivering to the peoples homes he couldnt put them in the mailbox, they sent the newspaper of the warning and if the infraction were to continue they would be fining my son 5,000.00. Good Luck!

It is illegal in China. They are often caught and fined but there haven't been anyone being put in jail for doing that.
