With all of the violence that takes place in our communities today, I am curious to find out who has a crime watch neighborhood and who participates in it?
I have lived in many Cities, Small Towns, Rural towns, and crime is rising more and more everyday. I am literally sick of hearing about shootings, stabbings, rape, drive-by shootings, drugs, break ins, etc...
Has anybody started or joined a Crime Watch neighborhood program in their community, and what do you do to enforce it?
I feel this is very important for people, families, parents, teachers, a community in whole to either join or organize a Neighborhood Community Watch in their neighborhoods, and stand up and take back what is rightfully yours. You have to let criminals know that this is not acceptable where you live.
For years I have wanted to protect my children from violence, and I feel I did a very good job at doing so. I always became apart of my local community watch program and started one if there was not one in place. So many of our kids are taken from us for utter nonsense. I mean, take for instance, drive-by shootings. With the uprise of gang activity growing day by day, and innocent children playing in their yards, sitting in their homes watching TV on the couch, sleeping in their beds, don't you think it all needs to end?
When I lived in California for instance, I lived in a neighborhood that I could afford. At the rising costs of living you have to accomodate to your standards.
Anyway is really was not a bad neighborhood, had some really great neighbors and all but, I noticed after the LA riots, the gang members of the Crips and Bloods were starting to move otu of the Greater Los Angeles area and into the smaller towns. I happened to have a family of Crips that happened to move into my apartment complex. Though we all know that it is hard to judge a person by there appearance, we learned who they were the hard way. There was a lot of activity coming in and out of the apartment throughout several hours of the day. There were cars driving up and down the street lurking about, checking out each and everybody outside of their homes, as if they were looking for certain individuals. These signs were signs of possible trouble coming within the neighborhood. It threw up flags to me, and made me a bit concerned.
My neighbor and I put our heads together, seeing we both lived in apartments that faced the street. We talked with other neighbors and expressed our concerns.
We took it upon ourself to keep this anything bad from happening in our neighborhood. We spoke with the local police dept. and got help from them but, we were not altogether with just them involved because we knew they could not be on our strret at all times. So we decided we would be the protectors of our area.
We patrolled our apartments each and every night from dusk until dawn. We noted and strange activities and passed it on to authorities.
In the long run it paid off. We helped to bring down Gang members in our apartments, we stopped the drug dealing that was going on, and we kept peace in our neighborhood.
I believe, it is time for neighbors to take back their neighborhoods and get crime under control. Protect your children, let them be safe, and bring sense of mind, and peace to your homes!
Just my opinion!
