I only tag if I am posting a new discussion. I never tag from just responding. I used to do that but I never saw the tags being added to the discussion so I quit doing it.

If you check all the tags you will see that it has 5 tags, except if a person has just started the discussion. I noticed that. Sometimes I might see 3 but the marjority of times you see 5 tags, and that is all they allow you! checkk it out you will see.

So you do not really know. I think it is just according to how much keystroke space is available i.e. this discussion ran out of space before the 5th tag was completed.

BTW where did you get the idea that there could only be 5 tags to a discussion. It
does not say anything about a limit in the guidelines. Nothing about it either in the myLot "FAQs - Tagging" .

Sure I do!
I don't even bother checking how many tag words there are already.
Normally, I just try to give at least one tag for any post I respond with.
Cheers!

When i start a topic, i usually tag two or three keywords, and if i am responding to discussions, i simply skip.

Tagging confuses me, If a discussion is started in a group, why do you need to tag it with a different name to begin with? When I do put a tag, most of the time it comes up with that little "This discussion was started in so and so, would you like to add this to your interest?" I understand that is how groups grow, but wouldn't it be easier just to do that to begin with, instead of everyone having to add another tag? As I said tagging confuses me!

Well I never tag others discussions anywyas the only time I put tags on is if I start the discussion. I feel if someone else has started the discusion they have it tagged the way they want it to be so I always just skip that part.

Yes I do that too, when I start a discussion. but when someone else starts one and there are already 5 tags. I won't being doing it anymore, I have been doing this for 2 yrs, well not anymore it is waste of time.

Yes, I still will usually add a tag, unless the tag I was going to put on is the same as what's shown...then I just skip it altogether. Not positive on this, but I think only 5 show up, and anything else that is a keyword tag for it won't show up on the visible list, but the search terms would still work in a search. I know the times I add tags (and there's already 5 shown) it still takes them and accepts them. It's just they don't show up. Next time there's a discussion that already has 5 listed, I'm going to add another and then search with the tag I just added (and not the ones that are shown on the discussion). I have a hunch that the tag would still lead to that discussion, as well as others with the same tag.

Good informaton Joy. I usually skip the tag too. Well I just started skipping tag, it does seem like a waste of time when there are already 5 tags.

Correct that only 5 show up under the discussions. The minimum to add so the box doesn't show if you add a comment to the same discussion is also 5 words. And the maximum you can add is 10 words.

Thank you. So that explains it, I thought it was something kind of like that. Didn't know they had a total limit on the amount of tags though. I wish they would put the tags that are already there on the discussion right there on the same page as the 'reply' box/page.

I tend to add the max of ten tag words for a few reasons. One being that if one does not add a minimum of 5 tags then goes back to that discussion the tag request comes again after adding a comment etc. 2 I add them for reference for future searches if need be, I tend to add my signature so I type that in the search box and find all discussions and or responses I have done.

I've given up on tagging other peoples discussions. I found that even when I added tags that hadn't been used, they didn't show up.

I think one can tag a maximum of 10 key words.
Of that only the first 5 in alphabetical order will be shown.
I think if you are tagging for a discussion which you have started I would recommend you to tag all the possible key words. This is because if two discussions have the same key word, then it will be shown below that discussion.
This helps you to get more number of responses to your discussion.

So,I advise you not to tag when you comment/respond but to add all possible tags if you start a discussion.[/b]
Cheers! Have a nice day
Happy mylotting and happy earnings.
