Why buy new when you can buy things secondhand?
You save money.
Recycle (yes, reusing clothes is recycling).
If you buy from a thrift shop, the money goes towards the charity specified.
If you buy from a yard sale, you help a family generate extra money.
The planet has enough waste as is, lets keep Clothes and dressers and strollers out of landfills!

Thanks for pointing out ways to stop wasting and throwing away clothes and other things.
I like to shop at consignment shops and sometimes the Good Will stores have clothes I like.

There is nothing wrong with buying second hand items like electronic products and the like but I don't agree if you buy second hand clothing items. You are not sure about the hygiene of the first owner. Thrift store would be fine for clothing. But never on second hand clothings.

I do buy second hand clothing, especially for the kids, as they grow out of them or destroy them so fast it just makes more sense. If my son destroys a brand new 20 dollar shirt after wearing it twice, I'm going to be angry. If he destroys a shirt that cost me a dollar or two, no big deal, you kow?
Thrift stores have some major finds in them. My father owns one, and he had someone donate a very old set of baseball cards, that he sold to a little boy for a couple of dollars. My dad told the boy "you are now the proud owner of over 1,000 dollars worth of rare baseball cards". The boy was absolutely thrilled. :O)

I buy secondhand clothes for my toddler all the time! She always gets staions on things and if it cost me a $1, who cares!

I love buying secondhand. I can always use the extra money I save. I have found lots of really good items for cheap secondhand.

I very rarely buy new things. I have better uses for my money!
I bought a new couch last year because I bought my very first house and had never had a new couch in my life. But even my house is used, built in 1923! The construction back than was top-notch, quality work so I considered it a good buy. These new houses are so flimsy..
I raised my kids in used clothing, too. Why waste money when they'll just outgrow them?! My dogs were used, rescued from abuse and homelessness.
I agree that used things are good use of our resources. If more people would buy used and bank the difference, we could go from a negative savings rate as a nation to something approaching economic responsibility.

i try as hard as i can to re-use every chance i can.
i started trying a few months back and it is really coming in handy. i use craigslist whenever i can to get what i need if i cannot find it at a yard sale or thrift shop.

For a while second-hand shops seemed to be sprouting quite a bit here. They didn't really have anything in my size and it took a lot of time to weed through everything because they don't bother to arrange them by size.
But I do love going to the more "expensive" ones that only accept consignments on vintage designer clothing in the hope that one day I'll find something really cool at a price I can afford.
If I have some old clothes I will donate them to goodwill. At least if they are still in good shape. Usually I will only part with something if its really worn out.

sometimes it is a time consuming process but when you find something great, it pays off!

I am into buying secondhand clothes.I just wash the clothes thoroughly and soak them in Zonrox or chlorine to kill any germs that might be left.Aside from saving money,I get to stretch my shopping budget.I always make sure that the clothes' stitches are still intact and there are no holes in the fabric.Finding one item that fits me well and only ONE of its kind gives me excitement and thrill.I'm confident I wouldn't run in to someone with the same clothes as I'm wearing.
