Do your friends and family in real life know that you are making money online?

As many of you know I have just started this online business thing. My friends and family is not really the "sitting in front of the computer" type. If I would tell them that I click on ads and get paid for it they would probably just laugh at me, and think I am stupid to fall for such an obvious fraud. So until I get any payments or get a bit further I keep it to myself! I am leading two very different lives IRL as oppose to online!
What is your experience with this online business? Have you told your friends and family, do they support you? Did you tell people straight away when you started, have people been supportive or have you met negative opinions? Are your friends and family involved, have you even gotten them as referrals?

I don't discuss it with anyone much unless they show interest in making money online. I sometimes mention I make a little money online. One of my daughters is into it too but doing different things than I do, which is cool. We have given each other links to check out. One of my sons is impressed at how much I have made online, but he has no interest in doing it. I remember his comment when I got my first referral and made 15 cents, I was excited about it. He kinda laughed a little and said, mom if you need 15 cents I got that in my pocket, he was joking and it was kinda funny. I guess you just have to like doing it to get excited about it and to keep doing it.

Yes they do. I tell them. And why not. A few have even followed me, and are doing it too. I don't let the people with negative reactions bother me. When I get checks or credit on pay pal that is proof enough. I send them links. If they want to sign up fine. If not no pressure.

My wife will tell me stories from her job asking if that would make a good discussion for me. I have started a few about her work and things occuring there. she is fully supportive and even helpful with her tales from work.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Oh my gosh I'm leading a double life as well! LOL. I feel a thrill when I say that. I waited a while before I told my mom but she doesn't mind. And plus when I do get paid I always have some money in my paypal account in case she needs to buy some food I'll buy if for her. So it's a blessing that I discovered this. My mother doesn't really know too much about computers. The only thing that she does on the computer is that she plays a game on gamesville.com but other than that no. I'm the only one in my family that does this.

I have no problem telling my friends and family I make extra money on the internet.I've cashed plenty of checks and gotten lots of GC's from my programs. Some say they would like to do it too,but they don't have the time.Anyone who says anything derogatory,I just laugh at them.I'm the one cashing the checks.

I didn't tell anyone else until after I started earning money. It doesn't really do any good unless you have proof.

No, I have not told my family or friend that I am making some extra income from online yet. I know they are not interested in it and I would want to tell them after I have saved enough money to buy something I wanted or maybe some present for them I think they will be happy to know that I am earning some extra money while surfing here.

Well, I have a lot of friends and family, both online and offline, etc. that know I am earning extra money online, and such. A lot of them think I am wasting my time, and can never make enough on here to replace a job, etc. I am one who has done many different things over time online. Some of them have taken $$ to get going, and others have been Free. Some I have definately done better with than others. But it is always nice to have another Check come in, or more money added to paypal from time to time. It may not be making me rich, but I also feel a little extra $$ surely never hurt anyone as well.
Some you will never convince, as there are some who could never do it even if it sat before them with the instructions, etc. and was easy money to get. They will always think you are wasting your time, and that is OK. But you also need to remember, what works for one person may not always for the next, etc. as well. But I feel it never hurts to try.

Good answer, thank you! I agree about that some people you won't convince. I guess that is why sites like myLot is so good, you can talk and find friends that are into what you are into. In real life other things like personality decides about who you choose as friends, but online you are anonymous so you have to go on interests instead!

Yes I've told my family that I make money online, Not everyone though cause I am kinda in the same shoes as you.. Alot would just laugh at me also.. Think it's just a waste of time.. My hubby thinks that as well sense I use my money for upgrades to make more money at certain sites.. But I do get one just about every month from clixsense and he was very spectacle about it.. But they are good and he's ok with me making money online even though it's really not alot.. Cause every bit does help...

Since I am not making much writing here I haven't bragged much to everyone but my children know that I am here typing away to entertain myself and make the little that I do. I really have never even had a payout yet and yet I do enjoy this and have gotten to like it more the more I have done it. I haven't made any referrals since I really don't know anyone who would "buy" into it except the one who got me into it! This is more a fun pasttime to me than it is a money maker like many who are on here and yet I am thrilled when I am the best answer that someone has picked. My family has always thought that I "lived" on the computer when I had many email friends, that seemed to disappear over the years and none of them has seen the love that I have for being online.

I think it might be a good idea to not have the goal to make money. The risk is that if you do not get rich in a second you get sick of it. If you enjoy it you are more likely to stick to it, and with this as oppose to emailing your friends, you can get the extra benefit of cash!

I finally had to tell my husband because he was standing over me all the time asking what I was doing on the computer day and night. He laughed and said it was a waste of time until I got my first check. He ran out and got me a frame and put my first dollar in it. I told my sisters and kids but they are skeptic. My husband runs around telling everyone! He is my biggest fan.

Sounds good! I hope that my boyfriend will be that supportive too! At the moment he thinks it's a bit weird. In his opinion it seems "to good to be true" but I cannot wait to show him
Actually today I put in for my first payout ever. Only 1 euro, but I thought I'd try! In seven days I'll know!

As I was skeptical about actually earning I hesitated when I started. Then I told my sister (I told her I was trying to get enough to buy her an ice-cream when I get to visit her - now she knows I'm into it for real). Then once I started getting some dollars adding up in my Paypal I started telling friends and then, but only then, my son. He is still not really convinced I'm earning so I don't say much about it anymore. One day I'll show him my Paypal if it ever gets to a BIG sum

I know what you mean. If you tell someone it is more as a joke first, to see their reaction. If they seem interested you might give them a few more details, but otherwise you just laugh and leaves! I suspect you have gotten enough for a fair few ice-creams so far!

I haven't really said anything either. I jsut told my husband taht I havve been doing research online to find some extra forms of income from working on line. For now I am tring like a hundred different things until I find one thatmight actually be worth the time. I thought that I had found it with wiseprice.com, they paid $5 a post, but now they can't pay for a while due to the demand of it. But I did make $40, any ideas of good places that don't make you sign up for like a hundred differet sponsors just to get paid?

My friends and family know that I try to make money online. Some of my friends have joined me here but most just think I'm silly and that I won't get anything out of it. I don't care what they think. I just do what I do. I also sell my jewelry and my hubbys sculptures on esty and I published a poetry book that I have online for sale. So all of this will eventually add up and then I'll be more comfortable. Most of my friends and family and I don't discuss what any of us do for work or money. We are just who we are. :)

I've decided to keep that information to myself and just not discuss it with my friends anymore.
They have "normal" jobs and are barely able to use their email properly so they don't have a clue what you are talking about. I'm lucky if they even bother to look at a website if I ask them to. And forget about support from so called friends. One said she was going to get a new computer and was going to get antivirus for it. I mentioned that I was an affiliate at antiviru-site-xxxx. Now if this really had been a true friend they could have gotten it there couldn't they? Well of course they didn't. Isn't it funny though that I'm always the one they call when their computer has seized up or something to that effect!
So to summerise I don't tell people who aren't really interested in internet stuff anymore because they don't have a clue what you are talking about anyway.

I guess that's the way it is. They might not see it seriously. I doubt that your friend did on purpose got another antivirus program. My bet is that she either didn't understand what you were talking about, so she just ignored it or she understood it but didn't understand how much it meant to you, and just decided for herself what she thought was best.
But I guess, if someone asks for my advice and then not take it, I am not sure I would spend much time to help them when they have problems.. I would just point out that if they had done it the way I said from the beginning it wouldn't have been any problems now!

Yes, a few people know. Especially people I've referred to this place or people I've invited to read my blog. My mom thinks it silly, but doesn't discourage me from belonging.

They know I make money, they know I sometimes have money from my online ventures but they don't know exactly what I do other than writing. I like keeping it that way because it's just easier and doesn't cause so many rifts. Besides, I like my online privacy. I don't need nosey family members poking their heads where it does not belong.

That is a good point too, privacy online! I was thinking about that when I told a friend of mine about myLot. Afterwards I almost changed my mind, because here I discuss things that I would not discuss with my friends, either because of the fact that it is easier when one is anonymous or because my friends here has the types of interests that my friends in real life doesn't.
It almost felt a bit weird when I thought about that she can go around and look at all that I have written!

I haven't received a payout from mylot either, but I am trying to beat the clock. I have only got 6$ and need to have 10 by the end of the month.. Seems a bit hard, considering the week is coming up with "offline" work.
I guess it means I will get more next month, but it would still be fun to see if I get anything, and this would be my first payment in anything, so I need it to use for "investing" in the other online things I am doing!
