This is my opinion as it gets rid of poor people and is opening up jobs, thereby lowering the unemployment rate.
What do you think?

Henjin, might I question your motives for saying that these Xenophobic attacks are creating job oppertunities? On a completely different note, remember the attacks in Zimbabwe against the farmers? Look where Zim. is now - an inflation of 100 000%, and yet there is nobody who can even try and produce a crop because the farmers were persecuted and 'removed'. Do you really want South Africa to move in that direction? Do you really want these attacks to spread to tourists when the 2010 Soccer World Cup takes place? Do you really want all of those people to live in fear of others?

The difference between South Africa and Zimbabwe is that the Zimbabweans did not take advantage of the opportunities opened up by the removal of foreigners. I hope that South Africans have the initiative to seize the new opportunities.
I personally disagree with violence in many ways, but on the large scale, violence is one of the most powerful catalysts for human development... just look at WWII and the advancements it provided. So I'm hoping that to some degree, these xenophobic attacks will improve our country.
I hope that if attacks spread to regular tourists, it happens now, so that people will be smart enough to avoid us in two years time.

Henjin and Pirate_Arg, I going to tell you about yourselves and then you will tell me how wrong I am.
You seem to come from a medium to high income backround urban environment, you possibly went to a good government school or perhaps a private school where you spent most of your time on a computer. You have never left the country and the traveling you did around South Africa has been inside a car and inside hotels. You think your view of life is fine and you think you know enough about South Africa.
You are 18 years old. Have you even left school yet?
Now, you claim xenophobia is not such a bad thing as it creates jobs, have you ever had a job? I'm not talking about washing the dishes at home job for R10 from your mom, I'm talking about making a living to support yourself?
Do you have any idea what that's like? Do you think it's easy, especially in another country?
Do me 2 favours please, as a fellow South African who shares this country with me and foreigners, appreciate, like me, that you don't know whats best for the country at your nieve age. Secondly, go on a gap year to work and be independant if you have the courage. It will change your thinking.
But judging from your posts, you have no prospects of changing your thinking. But I want you to realise this.
Just remember, maybe one day, after the foreigners are all kicked out, the white 18 year old males will be targeted and some 15 year old coloured from Athlon will say:
"I think South Africa's white male attacks are Great!"
It puts things in perspective if you're willing to see.
Anyway, enjoy all the attention you're getting in the meantime. Jackass.

Why exactly am I getting the proverbial slap on the wrist here as well? I believe that I was quite clear when I stated that xenophobic attacks are bad. Just because I don't neccesarily know what is best for the country doesn't mean I shouldn't discuss my views on current issues. I do believe that they are worth just as much as the views belonging to any other guy behind a keyboard. Old people don't know what is best for the country any more than young people do so what is the harm in talking about it?
I love the way you end your response: petty name calling. It says more about you than it does about me.

Hi Henjin,
You clearly have no idea what damage these xenophobic attacks caused in our country! You are entitled to your opinion of course . . .
Unfortunately I do not agree with you. You see this is my opinion, the foreigners that the South Africans are attacking, killing and chasing out the country are not taking anyone's job but doing jobs that most South African do not want to do. It is by law that a company should not employ an illegal resident (foreigner) unless no South Africans are available to take on that particular job, so the government is not offering jobs to them. Private companies on the other hand struggle with South Africans that do not want to work (choosy, picky, lazy ... whatever the case may be)and resort to employing these hardworking, dedicated and ambitious people instead.
Xenophobic attacks are nothing but a sad story that South Africa has to undergo at the moment. I truly believe that South Africans are venting their frustrations at the wrong people, we need to channel this energy into creating something positive and not killing each other like animals in the wild. What are we doing??
