living in apartment or common house?

Dear Friends, I need some insight on choosing type of living place. My family is facing a situation where our current house is no longer suitable for staying because the working place is too far for Dad, and with current messed up transportation system and higher oil prices, also the horrible traffic jams, we are considering to move to a new area that is closer to Dad's working place. We have two choices: moving to apartment, or moving to a common house. (just assume that the prices and sizes are about the same between these two.) And I need some insight from you all, especially those of you who have been living in these both types of 'housing', or at least ... apartment. If you have choices like these, which one would you choose? And why? Thank you in advance.

i never live in an apartment. well. if i can afford to live in an apartment.. i think i prefer living in apartment to living in ordinary house but far from work. but if you can more afford living in ordinary house in the center of city which i believe it will be more expensive. i prefer to ordinary house than an apartment. let me know what your decision is in the future

Well, I always have a preference for duplexes, triplexes, and four-plexes. They usually have less noise, and less racket and not AS MUCH problems with neighbors. And usually if you get a decent sized one, it has it's own washer and dryer instead of a communal one.

If i have enough money, i will buy a landed property. If my budget is low then i will choose a normal apartment. Currently i am staying a apartment. People here is not very educated in cleaning, they throw rubbish every where. Not enough parking space, every body need to double parking or squeeze ur car far far away. So if i have enough money i will just buy a landed property. Have my own space!

So, you got hit by the oil price. If you want to move to apartment, you better do research, calculate the cost, and take your time to know the neighborhood really well or you will regret it. I used to live in a house for many years and I don't really like it. Now, I live in apartment. It is so great because it is in the middle of the city. I can go everywhere fast and saves time. I don't think you can buy time so I don't want to spend it on the road. It also secure, I can leave my apartment, lock the door, and go for more than a month without any worry. The last thing, I don't have to care about fixing it. I just call the management and they will send somebody to fix it for me.

i think that common house is better.it can give your family more room to play games together,a quiet yard for shinning, and a lots of happy neighbour.that is fun.

if you ask about me, then i will prefer to live in common house than apartment since in the most apartment (from my knowing), they prohibited us to have some pets and i can't stay without any pets. at least i have wonderful cat, sheilla at this moment perhaps, if you like everything going be simple then apartment is the best thing to choose but still i love to stay in common house formy own comfortable than staying in apartment. i wish you can choose the best thing for you and your family, dear friend

Easy choice. HOUSE. Apartments are ok for a single person, but for a family choose a house. I personally live in an apt, and hate it. I hate having someone attached to my building. I live PRIVACY and peace and quiet.

Well I would rater live in a house any time than an apartment. I have only ever lived in an apartment for 6 monts out of my life, and it drove me crazy. I like having my own yard, so I can get outdoors and do what ever I want to do. I also like having pets, you can not have them in most apartments. With apartments you are really to close to other people, I like my privacy too much.I do not like people seeing every time I am coming and going, and hearing every move that the other tenants make.

I have lived in an apartment for the last 2 years and I hate it. I am moving next week to a house. I don't like apartment living for several reasons. Some are the noise level, can get very loud with kids playing in the hallways. Another is carring all my groceries up two flights of stairs. Another is going down two flights of stairs and down a long hallway to do my laundry. Another is taking the dog out for a pee, pain in the butt to take him up and down the stairs. So my preference is no apartment living again.

I've lived in both common houses and apartment. I'd really prefer living in a common house. apartments tend to be small and you're usually not permitted to renovate the house freely. this can be a problem if you have a big family. other than that, in the there are always additional costs you have to bare like service charge, maintenance fee, etc. Also, it's not as private as living in a common house because the walls are usually thin and you often here noises from next door and always the people living above you. but when it comes to location, apartments are usually located within the city so that would be a big plus if you work in the city. especially when you live at a place with unbelievable traffic that may take hours commuting from the suburbs to the city and back.

It depends on how much work you want to have to do on it. When you rent an apartment, you have everything fixed for you, you never have to cut the grass outside or repair the roof. When you buy a house, you have all those repairs to do yourself. BUT, owning a house has one very nice reward. The money you pay in mortgage payments brings it one little bit closer to the house being YOURS. When you rent an apartment, you're paying someone else each month and you never have anything to show for it in the end. I think owning a house is much better, financially speaking. Also, I love gardening, being able to paint my house whatever color I want, inside or out, stuff like that.

It kind of depends. I've lived in both apartments and houses and I actually prefer the house. It's a bit more expensive because you have to pay for your own utilites and such but houses usually have a bit more space. This should be taken into consideration if there are children around. With apartments, the space is kind of limited when it comes to a yard and parking spots. You also have to deal with your neighbors too. From my own personal experiences, I've always ended up with loud neighbors. Hope that was somewhat helpful.

Well, I've only ever lived in rented houses before I bought this one, and one thing I think you NEED to consider, consider paying higher rent if it has utilities included. It may seem like a good deal, but at times it may be more expensive when you pay for it. Its something you have to discuss with your family though.
