Voice lessons.. can they make a poor singer turn into a good singer?

I have believed that most people can learn how to sing well if they have voice lessons unless they are deaf or tone deaf. I am wondering if I am correct in this belief... What do you think? Can a poor singer become a good singer through voice lessons? And if yes, how do they work

If there's a song in your heart, you'll find music in your voice. It's a natural overflow of positive feelings. Music lessons encourage and foster this skill. Anyone can sing, but some of us soar when we sing.

I certainly agree upon this subject. I find great songs in my heart. That is why voice lessons are such a great idea. As you get those skills in your mind, you will eventually become a great singer.

It does indeed help people to reach the notes better because it teaches them to breathe with the whole lungs and the diaphram and to position the tongue properly so that the notes can come out more clearly and more on key. Thanks for bringing this aspect of voice lessons into the discussion.

in my opinion it can be happened. it means by having lots of practicing and voice lesson, even a poor singer can have good result although i believe the voice of this person won't be beat the person who already have talented in their voice. i said like this cause i believe there is nothing impossible happened if we always try hard to make it true

I think it all depends on the person whether they have motivation or the talent to actually go through singing lessons. I think anybody including myself doesn't really know what they sound like. I think the body finds comfort in anything and no matter how good the singer or not good the body will react to them in best way because they're experiencing comfort. I don't believe in the term "tone deaf" because I believe anyone can get better at anything with lessons or no lessons. A lot of work and effort in persucing something like singing can make a person better at it as long as they're motivated to do so.

Thank you for your emphasis on motivation and also for mentioning that anyone can get better with or with out lessons if they put effort into it. Thanks also for telling that people do not know what they sound like as a lot of people think that they sound horrible and do not want to sing perhaps because of one back early childhood teacher or because some kid or relative made comments about their singing. Voice lessons give a person a way to heal these old hurts and a way to hear oneself more like one is than what one has been told that one sings like.... It is liberating in this way.

Of couse they can! I used to think i'm a good singer. And some years ago, i took part in a singing competition. And the judges told me: people who can talk can sing. And they can be good singers too!

Thanks for sharing what the judges told you... Here's hoping that it will give some people the courage to go and get the voice lessons they need to learn how to sing better.

Hi There! Hmmm... I don't know.. but I know a friend of mine is not that good in singing but she is now! It is really cool! Unfortunately for me, I never did learn how to sing in the right tone... I have my own tone when I sing so entering in a voice lesson really didn't help. hehehe... I guess it depends.

Thanks for your response.... I am hoping that you continue to sing as it typically has some health benefits even if you are not hitting the right notes.

Well, voice lessons will be a very great subject to study in order to become a great singer. Colleges and other places offer these. As long as you study real hard, you will eventually become a great singer. If you want to be like other Hollywood and other professional ones, this will be a very long time for you. Just like other subjects, like horns and other musical stuff.

I must admit that I was remembering some of those vocalizations as I used to take voice when I was younger... I was remembering the scales on "Ah"... It made me smile. Thanks for your post.

I think that practise can make a poor singer into a good singer. And I also do believe that there is something called gift. Maybe what makes a top singer is not only practise but also gift. Am I making any sense?

Thanks for your post... I believe, like you, that people can improve and make it in life and in voice if they do their best and practice a lot... That is if they have no deafness, bad sinus problems or other things that affect the voice and make it more difficult to hear the pitch and sing the notes.
