I find it unmanageable, because i have some six rows of desktop icons and it growing more and more everyday.
Probably, i must one day or other, rearrange it , and delete those unwanted icons, from the desktop and must un install those programs, or else i must frame a separate folder and group them together, those which fall in a same category.
Cheers and Have a nice week end.

Hi saivenkaat802003! I think i only have 2 1/2 rows of icons. My husband usually checks on my laptop and delete anything that it is not of use to me. Although I really don't know what I do need. haha.. Anyway he tells me that he is deleting some unnecessary shortcuts or icons because it will just tend to slow down the start-up. I just trust his judgment on the matter as I only just use my laptop for internet unlike him who used his desktop for his work.
Take Care and God Bless! Happy Mylotting!

Not that many. I try to keep the number of icons manageable and to those I use often only.
It is not good to have too many icons on your desktop.
One, it defeats the purpose of easy access.
Two, it slows down the booting up of your computer.

Yes, I have many desktop icons in my computer. I like computer and I think I am good at it. So you can imagine I like to try many different software and therefore I have more softwares than others. When others see my desktop they will be very surprised to it. But that's not a big deal for me:)

Does not it takes a lot of time for your computer to start on. As i am experiencing it. Nearly it takes some 5 to 8 minutes for my system to get booted.
Okay, one advice i need, my anti virus package is going to expire in few days. Can i have a free to use, anti virus software? From where i could download it for free?

I manage my desktop very judiciously. I do not generally put more than 25 icons of default size which occupy 30% of my desktop area.I segregate files as per the theme and move them from 'my documents folder to bigger hard drive partition regularly, so that the virtual memory does not go too low.

Well managed Desktop is a good indication of the in depth knowledge which you have in other areas of computer programming. Is my guess correct?
Take care friend.

wow. six rows??? that's a lot saiven. i don't have that much icons in my desktop. i only have two rows, probably not more than 25 icons. only icons of important programs like yahoo messenger, chikka messenger, mozilla firefox, and other programs i constantly use. also, i have icons for folders that i open every now and then like My Pictures. and then, i have icons which i did not place in my desktop. the one who installed my internet broadband connection placed it there. it contains basic information about my internet connection.
i don't like having a lot of icons in my desktop because i wouldn't be able to appreciate my desktop background. and i don't like seeing too many things in my desktop because it would seem so messy.

Having a lot of desktop icons and stuff on the desktop, slows down the starting process i mean the booting process. I have a PC and a MacBook, the desktops of both of which are almost empty, MacBook has only one icon on desktop. I also make sure that the documents folder is also empty because that also adds to boot time.

And thanks for responding. Also, i am sorry for the delay in responding.

I can't really understand. Does deleting the shortcuts remove the icons from getting loaded in the Start up menu.
One of my friend suggested to Execute the MSconfig command in the Run command area, and advised me to choose "selective start up " option. But when i do so, other things like speaker volume, anti virus alert, etc gets disabled.. So i again switched to Normal start up option.

Hi saivenkaat802003, my desktop is very 'dirty' due to my job makes me produce many documents and folders everyday (I simply treat it as my workbench!) To make the icons manageable, I divide the desktop into several virtual sectors. The left hand side is for placing shortcuts (Arrange by name). The middle area are folders of installation (my job involve software testing, thus produces many folders of installation). The right hand side is for placing document files (Word, Excel...). Doing so can help me locate the file I need easier. However, there is a drawback - If you change the screen resolution, you will find the icons' in a mess.

Hi jickyeung,
It is because of your work schedule, and huge volume of work that you do while software testing, your desktop looks cluttered.
Always, there are excuses for it, but not for people like me, who are either lazy or don't know the if's and but's of it.

When i have lots of things to do, for the office work, my desktop are full of documents, but i will manage it at the end of the working day, let them back to their home. i have different folder and group to classify and keep useful documents. It is just a habit, isn't it?
