When you notice your computer case is looking a bit "tatty" and dusty then its time to clean inside and outside your computer case, here i have am giving you some tips to help maintain your computer, please note;if your computer is dusty outside then you can guareenteed the the inside of your computer is even worse!!by not cleaning your computer you are sure asking for trouble sooner or later,as the dust accumalates inside it clogs up your fan making your hardware overheat, and finally causes hardwaire failer,a good sign your heading for hardwaire trouble is the fan screeching when been on for some considrable time, this maintance should be follow ever 3 months at least!
1)Never leave your computer on the floor always on your computer desk or shelf for this purpose!
2)Turn of computer,power supplie,undo all cables.
3)Now open the back of your computer, then use your hoover attachment small nossel with brush, and power on at the least suction power level, then gently clean out the dust inside, paying great attension to your fan!
4)At the end close your computer, then cleaning outside case get some gentle cleaning fluid, spray on a clean cloth first, not direct on your computer outside case, clean, then dry with kitchen paper, thats all there is to it,and you will have many years of trouble free hardware failer!i have added a picture to show just what a dirty inside computer can look like and i think you will be pretty shocked!anyway enjoy, regards,Gilly

It is really an important issue but I wish I was not too lazy to do that. My computer starts making "whistles" when I run a game for a few hours and it is because of the heat which occurs on my processor.
Since the summer is coming and the weather is getting hotter, the performance of my computer has gone down greatly. Especially in the games I am having very big issues and I know it is about the heat which is caused by the dirt in my computer. I should shut down my computer and clean the inside of it. I haven't done that for about 4 years now and I haven't reformatted my hard drive for 4 years also. Now my computer is working slowly but the main reason is the dirt and heat. I am keeping my operating system secure, so there are not many problems about it but also reformatting your hard drive and re-installing your operating system makes your computer feel fresh and gives a little performance boost.

Hi the -ruler,
my friend i think your missing the point, cleaning your computer, and security are two different issues, exactly if your computer is slowing,it could be that because you have not kept up cleaning your computer, and by the sound of it yours is already overheating, and causeing the exact problems i have stated,if the fan is running slow due to dust, overheating will accure, which in turn slows down your computers hardware!best wishes, gilly

No no, I just wanted to stress on that the reason is heat and dirt in my computer. As you already know, they are related to each other. I mentioned the security stuff to say the performance drop is not about security. because many people would think I might have some security gaps and spywares in my computer which caused the perfomance drop. However, the reason is dirt and heat.

This happened to my laptop once! It was starting to run really slowly and getting really hot whenever I used it. Then one of my friends recommended that I clean the dust out of the air vents. Since it was a laptop it was a mission, but it's not impossible.
There was so much dust inside and the air vents were totally clogged, even the filter. After I cleaned it out and put the laptop back together, it ran much better.
You are totally correct in saying this; keeping your computer clean is very important, especially as it gets older.

It is a great bit advice, and though my computer is new, i must follow the tips at a later date.
I fear that, i wont act on my own, but will certainly call my PC dealer, for doing the same.
