Hanging Laundry out to dry.

During the summer months I'll hang my laundry outside to dry. It saves power, cuts down on the heat indoors when its hot out, saves a bit on money on power and dryer sheets, and the clothes smell nice after drying outside. how many other people do this? Are there other reasons why? When do you do it...year round, spring/summer?

I used to do it more, but I love the smell of laundry that dried out in the sun. Tomorrow I am doing sheets and blankets..it will be so nice to go to sleep in them! Oh yes, it also does save money!

Getting the sheets and blankets out is a big part of spring cleaning.

Well we already did the blankets and sheets...but one of my dogs chewed himself raw and there are spots of blood on the blanket. That is the reason for the blanket washing.

i hang the laundry inside the house. i don't need to bring it outside because the heat inside the apartment is hot enough to dry the clothes within 24 hours. that's how hot inside our apartment. lol.

I will do it when I have time, and that usually is the summer. It actually can make your clothes last longer, and shrink less. I try to put the things on hangars that I would hang up after putting them through the dryer, that way I only handle them one time, straight from washer to hanger. It can keep your whites brighter as well.

I love the smell of outdoor line dried laundry. In the winter I'll hang clothes that will shrink in the dryer..but they tend to take on the smell of the basement as i dont have space upstairs to hang them. winters I wish clothes would dry outside rather than just freezing or I'd hang my things year round!

I have one of those little wooden clothing racks, I hang the clothing up at night and carry it out to get the winter sunshine. Sometimes it dries out there, sometimes it comes in frozen.

My country is summer all year round. It Hot Hot Hot throughout the year. Drying clothes has never been a major problem. In fact, most families here do not own a dryer. Dryers are not in demand here.

Thats really nice...lucky even as you probably save quite a bit on power without one.

We don't have this concept of dryers in India, we always dry our clothes in sunlight for other scientific reasons, sunlight kills all bacteria and germs in the clothes, it brings the crispness. so it is always advisable to hang your clothes in sunlight, happy drying :)

I didn't know that the sun killed bacteria and germs. Interesting.

I prefer hanging clothes and let it sun dry. It does smell much better when it is dried under the sun. So all year round I do hung my clothes to dry it. I live in a tropical country so it seems like summer all year round, :D

I would love to hang clothes out, but our line is under a tree, and the birds like to poo on the clothes.

I usually hang the towels out to dry every day that the sun is shining. It does save money on power. Its good to do all that you can to save money these days. I only have one line, so i'm limited on how much I can hang out, but i'm probably going to put up another line very soon.

My mom does my washing, and she'll hang the washing out to dry any opportunity she gets rather than using the tumble dryer. This is all year round, as long as it isn't raining. I think it's probably in an attempt to save money, though we've never really talked about it at length :P

I love to hang clothes out on the line. It's just a good quiet time for me. I have a gadget that I have in the house that I hang jeans and shirts on in the winter. But in the summer time I hang almost everything outside. I don't hang socks and underware outside, because I a pervert for a neighbor. I don't want him seeing them. YUCK!!! But if you don't like your jeans and towels stiff. I use liquid softener in the washer, then I toss them in the dryer for a few minutes. Usually long enough to start a new load. When I get it started, I'll take the clothes out of the dryer and sort them and take them outside. Does anyone else sort their clothes before hanging them up? I'll hang my clothes together, and my husband's together. That way I dont' have to resort them when I get them back inside. I can take the pile of clothes straighr to the dresser. I also use hangers to hand up t-shirts. It's a great space saver on the line. I secure the hanger with a pin so they don't all clump together.

LOL I am so glad my nearest neighbour is 2.5 miles away! Here i am today taking laundry off the line in wet clothes (i went swimming in my clothes) decided ooh i want to wear this i stripped and changed outside. Hung my wet stuff on the line. The most sorting i do is hanging the towels or heavier clothing near the ends of the line rather than the centre or my line sags really oddly.
