Sometimes we are having our meal in the restaurant together with our kids. Almost every restaurant here we could find baby chairs available there for the convenience of the customers who are bringing their children along.
Some parents let their toddlers to sit in the baby chair and let them enjoy eating food themselves whereas the others let their toddlers to sit on their laps and feed the toddlers in the meantime. Occasionally I found toddler crying while sitting in the baby chair and parents tried to pleased him with iced soft drinks.
When my kid was still an infant I preferred to let him learning to eat by himself sitting in the baby chair unless the chair looked disgusting and dirty.
Please kindly share your views here.

Hi lkbooi, when I go to resaurants, I enjoy seeing a couple with kids seated on baby chairs and having fun with their meals. I even feel like getting pregnant the very moment and be in such a scenerio. When I see a kid crying simply because they are seated on baby chair and not on mum's lap then I feel bad. I dont like seeing a baby cry and also I dont like seeing mother burdened with a big baby on her lap, struggling to feed them and her food getting cold on the side. We should train our kids to do things on their own. If the first time you put baby there and it cries try and insist baby sits there, or else it will repeat itself over and over.

It is really a warm and pleasant scene to see an intimate couple with lovely kids seated in the baby chairs having meal in the restaurant. I hope you always have chance, or once in a year, to see such admired moment in the restaurant then I would have opportunity to see many lovely little kwengeS and one or two sitting in the baby chairs in the restaurant if I visit Kenya one day.
It is really annoying to see kids crying and want their mom to feed them in the restaurant. Yeah, toddlers should be trained to take food by their own selves and cultivate with other good habits as well at anytime. Happy posting and have a nice day.

Hi kwenge, just now my hubby rushed to the door side of the bedroom to see why I keep on laughing. Hi dear, it is always full of joy to read your comment. I imagine that there are three little kwengeS running around and having fun with my dear kwenge, I couldn’t help laughing again. But I believe these adorable kids are well disciplined as they have a good and caring mom. I pray you would never see those naughty and rude kids but lovely and obedient ones who sit properly in the baby chairs and enjoy their food.
Good luck and happy always.

Ikbooi, you never cease to amaze me dear friend, welcome to Kenya.......I am planning to have two or 3 'kwengeS' as you have called them. I admire couples with desciplined kids having a good time. I pitty those with naughty and rude kids. Kids should be trained from a very young age on how to behave. I pray that mine turn out right. I cant entertain brats.

Kids are cute and I enjoy looking at them in the restaurant. But I doubt they like to sit on the baby chair. It's quite restricting, and toddlers like to move or crawl around. But for the conveniences of parents, they should be seated properly in such a chair. If I have my own child, I will make sure that the baby chair is stable enough and as what you said, it's clean enough. I think my parents used to put me in a baby chair when they are having meals in the restaurants.

Well you kid must be very energetic and do not like to be in a restricted space. Besides, I can see that both of you care about your kid very much and have a lot of patience when trying to keep him in his baby chair. I will take good care of my kid equally in future, that's if I am going to have kid You are most welcome and have a nice day too!

When my kid was still a toddler, haha ... he finished eating his food very fast in the baby chair. Then he would feel uneasy to stay in the restricted chair anymore and made noise to attract our attention to allow him to be released. My husband and I would take turn to carry him and didn’t allow him to move around as it was not polite and hygienic to let a kid moving or crawling around in the restaurant. What’s more he was still an early toddler.
From your words I understand that you are the person who loves and always takes good care of kids. I believe you would love and take good care of your kids very much if you have your own in time to come.
Take care and happy posting.

Nowadays it seems that most of the kids are tending to be very energetic and couldn’t sit still even for a couple of minutes. I think one of the reason might be they are too well fed ..... I was told that kid taking too much sweeties is usually very active and restless. So it is quite difficult to take care of them as the parents have to run wild chasing after them hahaha.....
Happy posting and enjoy your sweet night.

You are right vanities, it is the best way to train the child who can sit properly to be seated in the baby chair, so both the parents and kid can enjoy eating food more relaxingly and comfortably in the restaurant. If there is no vacant baby chair I would stack up two or three chairs to make the seat higher for my small kid. Then he can easily reach the food on the dinner table.

Hi Jakesnake, as we know, baby chair is purposely designed for the safety of the toddlers in the convenience of the parents as well. Of course parents still have to take care of the toddlers as usual, but not too absorbed in enjoying food only.
Yeah, when the kid is old enough to take care of himself and could sit properly on the ordinary chair then he is not necessary to sit in the baby chair anymore. Happy posting and have a nice day.

I would tell you that when babies start to grow and learn about behaviors, they would not need baby chairs at all anymore. So parents are still responsible for the safety for the children especially when they are at restaurants or wherever. It is really important always that children learn great stuff.

Hi marketing, your baby girl might look sweetly cute sitting in the baby chair enjoying her food. I am glad to know that your adorable baby girl is able and happy as well to adapt herself to part of the social life at such a young age. Yeah, proper exposure to society can help child’s development healthily.
Take care and happy posting.

I believe as long as parents are out together in a restaurant having a meal and a baby chair is provided ,at the eating establishment then the infant should be in it.Once it is clean and hygenic it also provided some piece of mind and aids in conversion, without having to much time to feed baby. The first time my son cried so much ,in a baby chair in a restaurant, However the hostess was very gracious and patient. In a few minutes I almost felt like Matthew was somewhere else, instead of with his parents .

Very often the kid feels reluctant to sit in a baby chair in the restaurant at the first time. So it was normal that your son cried at his first attempt. You were so lucky that you happened to meet such a gracious and patient hostess that saved you a lot of trouble in solving the child’s problem. I think she deserved high praise and good tips as well.
Good luck and happy posting.

Both of my children used high chairs. I never even thought to put them on my lap to eat. They never fussed while in their chairs. They were very content to sit there and eat, well eat some and mess a lot!

You are really a good mom as you have trained your kids to be well disciplined sitting in the chair when having meal in the restaurant. I believe you and your kids always feel pleasant and comfortable enjoy eating food there. It is quite normal that kids would leave messy food on there. They would abandon this bad habit when they have grown up. Take care and happy posting.

Hi diansinta, we normally will find baby chairs in the restaurants here in my country. The baby chair you attached here is very lovely and I suppose it could be folded and portable. Just now I thought of leaving a comment on your photo but in vain. I was not allowed to do so as I was prompted with the statement: “You must be friends with this person to leave a comment”.
It was rather weird as I could succeed to leave a comment on photo in one of your discussions about your own painting, lily Fairy, 3 weeks earlier. I also discovered that the comment was no longer there anymore.
I had visited Bali end of last year. The natural landscapes of the island were really fascinating and the people there all were friendly indeed. Yeah, I didn’t find any baby chair, when we had food in the restaurants there for 4 days. It might be I was not attentive enough to notice them.

i have a niece in family. actually she was not very comfortable sitting in the bay chair. ratjer she liked to sit on lap or other regular chaitr with us, she also tried taking food like us using the spoons. it helped her as she learned to take hotel food from very early age.

Haha ...subha, it is interesting to know that sometimes your niece seems like she is big enough to sit on the regular chair to take food by herself. I am afraid that her height might make her difficult to reach the table surface. So I believe you have piled up two or three chair for your niece so that she is in level with the table surface. Good luck and happy posting.

I used to put my daughter in the child chair also and let them eat by themselves unless the chair was dirty also. I would not let them make a mess though. If my child did accidentally make a mess in the chair, we would clean it up ourselves because the restaurant did not make sure to clean it up for the next child to cit in.

Hi stephcjh, you are really a caring person. I appreciate you as you are so kind to tidy up the chair in case it is dirtied by your child accidentally. I do like to do the same as you to take good care of the public baby chair so that other customers could enjoy the facility provided by the restaurant.
Good luck and happy posting.

i dont have that experience...and i didnt notice there were baby chairs in the restaurants, next time i'll pay attention to this.
but if the baby chair is not clean enough, which you can't tell from its surface, can you make sure to put your baby in the chair? i know sometimes babies like bite things at hand, they are curious about everything,is that safe?

...of course I won’t put my toddler in the baby chair if I notice that it is dirty and unhygienic. I will ask the waiter there to clean it before to have the infant seated. We can wait until the food is served then we put some food in a big plate and place it on the front board of the baby chair. Give the toddler a spoon and then put him in the baby chair and let him enjoy learning eating there.
Take care and happy posting.

Actually the baby chair provided in the restaurant is for the convenience of the parents to take food without carrying the toddler at the same time. A young child who is learning to walk is safer to sit in it than to sit on a normal chair.
Oh! Now I finally come to understand that some toddlers cry because their freedom is restricted in the confined space. Anyway my nieces and nephews were quite different as they seemed to enjoy very much sitting in the baby chairs while taking food together with us in the restaurant.
Happy posting and enjoy your sweet time.

it's a good idea to let toddlers sit on a baby chair. it's a sort of training for them and i also find it cute seeing little kids playing with their food while they're on it ^_^
i think some toddlers cry because they're not used to sitting alone...my sister, when she was a kid had that same problem which she overcame later on =)

Hi janni, I think this is the best time to train the toddler to eat by itself in the public. Mostly those timid or over cared toddlers refuse to sit alone in the baby chair. I like watching the small kid patting vigorously with its lovely hands on the front board of the baby chair and kicking its legs in the meantime once it has seated down.
Yeah, I agree that some kids cry because they feel strange to sit alone in the unfamiliar chair. we might have done the same thing during our childhood, who knows? Take care and happy posting.

Hie lkbooi, so far the toddlers that I come across seemed happy to be on the baby chairs as long there is food to enjoy
Guess it's in everybody's culture to use food to soothe and comfort them. I wouldn't mind either using the baby chairs.
I think if there is something to catch their attention and things they like , they wouldn't mind to stay put. But it is a good thing that this places are baby/child friendly to promote learning & growth to this toddlers and carers too. An advantage is mishaps spilling of drinks and messiness on the table could be avoided and the parents or carers would enjoy having the meals together.
I still remember my mum still keeps a rattan made baby chair at home that was used for my nephew, me and my brothers when we were toddlers. I would consider it as an antique and it is still strong & in good condition after 45 years already. And now too bad my mum uses it a foot stool
I have yet to see any restaurants that have a baby chair with rattles/toys....mmmm...perhaps they should look into that.
Cheers and have a good day!

Yeah Desierra, to sit in the baby chair eating together with other members in the restaurant is a good way to let the toddler to learn eating by himself. Besides, the mother also could enjoy eating more relaxingly without carry the toddler on her laps. Yeah, toddlers normally wouldn’t cry if they are really engrossed with what are in the plate in front of them. I think they would cry only if we take away the food which they are indulging in. lol ...
Really, I did see those baby chairs which were made from rattan and bamboo as well when plastic materials were not popular yet. They were mostly in square shape. You are right, now we couldn’t find this sort of baby chair anymore. So you better keep it nicely and I bet it would become an invaluable antique later on. So cherish it my dear. I think it is not bad your mom uses it as her foot rest stool and I hope by doing this she polishes it indirectly every now and then to make it looks more smoothly. If it is a bamboo one it would look more shinning.
Happy posting and thanks for responding.

I think it is safer for the child to be secured in the chair to eat. It also allows the parent to be more comfortable eating and not have baby hands in their food.
If, however, the child is resisting sitting in the chair - screaming and fussing - to the point that is bothering the other patrons of the eating establishment, then perhaps the paret shuldhold the child instead.

I believe it is quite safe to let toddler sitting in the baby chair while having meal in the restaurant as the chair is well designed for them. Moreover parents could enjoy eating food more comfortably, free from the burden of having a baby in their lap.
I think toddler would scream and fuss only at the first time when he is seated in the baby chair. Later he would get accustomed to it and enjoy sitting in the chair to have fun eating food there. Happy posting and have a nice day.

Well, I would definitely say that in all restaurants and other certain dining places, like cafeterias or whatever, all babies and children under age of 3 or so must sit in baby chairs. That is for the safety definitely. So if I were going to watch one of my nieces one night, I would bring her with me to Quiznos and I would ask one of the clerks for a baby chair. I would treat her to a small thing of tea. What do you guys think?

Yeah, it is safe for kids under the age of 3 to sit in a baby chair when having food in public places, likes restaurant etc. Toddler can learn eating by itself in the safety chair and parents could enjoy eating comfortably without the burden of having an infant on the laps. Hi Jake, you are really a caring uncle and so kind to get a baby chair for your niece when having fun in Quiznos. I believe your niece quite enjoy her dessert and tea as well there.
Take care and happy posting.
