I do and I love it. I make dried fruit, jerky, and fruit leathers. I also dry my own herbs in it. Do you have one? What do you use it for?

I do own one, but I've not used it yet. I dehydrate loads of fruits and veg each year as it's my favourite method of preservation, but I normally rely on the sun to do it for me, or pop trays on top of our wood stove once it's cooling. I dry beans and peas for use in the winter, herbs for cooking generally, all the flowers and leaves I use for herbal teas, and various veggies. I prefer to bottle fruits and use them as desserts, but I have dried them before. My most useful dehydrated items are dried nettle leaves and dried pepper. Both get added to loads of dishes and are really easy to store in glass jars in the kitchen.

Wonderful. You are quite frugal and that is good in this day and time.

When you use the sun for drying, how do you prevent bugs from getting at it?

Hi Tbomb! I use a layer of mosquito netting over whatever I'm drying when I'm doing it outdoors.

We have a food dehydrtor, though I haven't used it in a while. This summer I will have some herbs to dry so perhaps we will use it them. It has to run for so long that I always wonder about how it will effect the electric bill. I do love jerky, and dried fruit thoguh, and those things can get pricey.
