Do you light a candle when you prey/ask/hope for something?

I love candles but haven't
ever used then spiritually
have you?
"Mrs. Donovan was walking down O'Connell Street in Dublin when she met up with Father Flaherty.
The Father said, 'Top o' the mornin' to ye! Aren't ye Mrs. Donovan and didn't I marry ye and yer hoosband 2 years ago?'
She replied, 'Aye, that ye did, Father.'
The Father asked, 'And be there any wee little ones yet?'
She replied, 'No, not yet, Father.'
The Father said, 'Well now, I'm going to Rome next week and I'll light a candle for ye and yer hoosband.'
She replied, 'Oh, thank ye, Father.'
They then parted ways.
Some years later they met again.
The Father asked, 'Well now, Mrs. Donovan , how are ye these days?'
She replied, 'Oh, very well, Father!'
The Father asked, 'And tell me, have ye any wee ones yet?'
She replied, 'Oh yes, Father! Three sets of twins and 4 singles, 10 in all!'
The Father said, 'That's wonderful! How is yer loving hoosband doing?'
She replied, 'E's gone to Rome to blow out yer candle.' "

I dont light candle while praying.. I am not a christian also.. I dont like to waste the candle as there are many people who need it.. many homes in the village doesnt have electricity.. it would be better if the candles are given to them instead of wasting it..

I'd sometimes do that when I pray.It actually sets up my mood and I feel more concentrated.After all,that's what lighting candles is all about-fervent praying.

Hi raydene! haha..That is a good one! Really funny! But does it ring any truth to it? For I shall start lighting more candles from now on when I pray. haha..
Oh but what if the lighting of candle just work in Rome? haha..

i've been to church loads of time even though im not a catholic...but whenever i go i do light a candle...call it supestition or watever,it gives me a feeling of peace and calm

LOL thats funny!! and to answer your question...I dont pray BUT I do use candles when meditating and doing other spiritual things that could be considered my version of praying as it applies to my personal path if that makes sense....

I have and I prefer to use candles for spiritual reasons. They're relaxing and really help me focus on what I need or want to work on or accomplish for myself and others. I don't feel that candles need to be specific for any religion though, I feel anyone can use them.

It's not something that we do other than lighting Advent candles in the Christmas season. It might,however, be a good thing for a lot of us to do, to help us take the time to pray and reflect.

I keep a ST.JUDE candle burning quite often. I feel a sense of security with them, especially with prayers.

That's a very funny story! :)
I once lit a candle in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. It was a very moving experience for me, I was about twenty years old. I don't usually light candles when I pray but I think it is a beautiful ceremony or ritual to do so. :)

I do it once a year, on Christmas :)
My church always do it on Christmas ceremony, they turn off the light and light on candles. The congregation also light on the candles and sing the Silent Night song, u must take a look at the view, it's very beautiful :) than we pray with the candles still light on.
