If someone was to walk into your home and look at your decor, without meeting or knowing anything about you, what do you think they would guess you are like?
I think if people were to walk into my place they would think I was an old lady... I have a lot of what some may consider "tacky" antiques, but I love them! I think my "style" embarrasses my boyfriend, but he's just jealous.

Interestingly enough, most of the people who come into my home call it "homey". I don't really know what that means because I have an ecclectic 'mess' of things that we like.
It's a mixture of technologically 'modern' things mixed with a bunch of other stuff - antiques, things from our past, things we like now, and a lot of garage sale items.
Some people would call it 'sensibly chic'. I just call it my mess.
It's a clean mess though. My daughter says I'm a clean freak, but I don't think I am. I just don't like getting caught off guard, so I try to keep the clutter at a minimum.
Our home is functional, comfortable and I feel like I'm surrounded with the things we like. Otherwise I wouldn't have them. I'm not waiting for the day when the kids are grown and I can have nice stuff. I just make do with what I have. We LIVE in our home. It's certainly no showplace, but it's allllllll mine.

That sounds like the kind of house I like to visit. I get uncomfortable in homes that are barren.. I like interesting things with history and stories behind them. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a minimalistic house, but I am always afraid of touching anything lol.

Heck, there's nothing in my house you can't touch ('cept my husband).....LOL
My house is made to enjoy. You would REALLY enjoy my patio. It's made for fun. It has an outdoor kitchen, hot tub, pool table and comfy sitting. The only thing missing out there is a door that leads into the bedroom and potty. I still have to go inside for that. LOL

People would walk in my house and say that we are very modern. With our Ikea decor we kind of have mixed it in with just some important furniture we had forever like my great grandmothers china cabinet and some other oak wood furniture. But mainly house was decorated by Ikea.

Hah, people would think that we are packrats. We have a whole lot of stuff, it's not very tidy at the moment, and it just looks like a big jumble of junk. I am working on it, but we live in a small apartment with a lot of stuff. One room at a time... :)

LOL theyd either be scared, confused or just think I'm weird...all of which would be right! Ppl coming into my home SHOULD be scared (especially if they go into my room LOL), they WOULD be confused cause I'm an eclectic, eccentric woman and there really is no pattern to my life except maybe the fact that I'm a heavy reader and an artistic person, and them thinking I'm weird is beyond accurate LOL

OMG, this question leaves me in a cold sweat.
My family are so messy, if someone walked in unannounced they would think a bomb had hit the place and never believe only 4 people live here.
My decor is ok when you can see it, all white walls with pictures that are personal to me. My sons room has grafitti on the walls, but hey, freedom of expression is good, yeah!!
They would also think the man of the house needs to learn some DIY, I have been telling him for years, but as I mentioned in another of your blogs, smoking the weed makes him such a lazy ***k!!

My brother graffiti-ed my family's basement back when he lived at home... it was interesting, but my mom painted over it as soon as he left lol.

I'm not sure what a person would think of my style. Most of my furniture is black, or dark woods. My sofas are the exception, they are both off white color, but I really like the way they look in contrast with the rest of the dark furniture.
As far as decorations, the only things we really have up are pictures of our son. There are a lot of them. Most of them are in black frames, but a few of them are in frames that he picked out himself (like puzzle pieces). There are also things that he has colored or painted up in a few places. Everything else has a specific function.

Haha. Caught off guard by the tacky old lady antiques... didn't see that one coming. Haha
People are able to tell from my home that I am a nurturing person, that I apreciate art and love pottery, and that nature matters to me. Oh, and that I care more about my son having fun and learning than I do about my house being 'visitor ready'.

Since most people would enter through the side door into the kitchen, the first thing they would notice is I like collecting black bears, and the smell of coffee would tell them I usually have a pot of coffee on. Dining room would tell them I like antique furniture, and living room is comfortable with plenty of seating. If they went up stairs they would know I love scrapbooking lol. And that I'm from Texas. They would also know that I love photography. They would also notice that I keep the house 'company' clean, I'm not a clean freak, but there is never a time that my house is not clean enough for company that might just stop by, something I learned growing up in the south, from my mom and my grandmother.

If someone where to come see my decor I dont think they would know what to make of it, I have stuff from the 60's, 70's then it jumps to early english and I dont know what else. I hate it im trying to fix it up in one style that will fit everyone living here and thats hard.

They would say ewwww get it together. I am in the middle of getting my floors done in my kitchen and dining room. So everything is in the living room. I have a lot of remodeling to get done so my house is going to be a mess for sometime. It doesnt matter how much cleaning I do right now it still looks like I never clean.

the first question that anyone would possibly get when they enter my house is that Have i entered a house !@$# :P
its a place filled with junk and unwanted stuff
a place that was once neat and tidy was then beutified by my august presence
people who could once walk through well kept walkpaths now walk over all possible stuff that they can think of :D
on the whole they would come to know that i am a very responsible person who has a sense of cleanliness and maintains his home very neatly ;)

I think the unicorn is pretty. I guess people would think "gosh, she needs to clean up her house". I'm not a great housekeeper. My husband is a packrat and I love my "hobbies". I have polymer clay, acrylic paint, and sketch pads strewn about. I also collect Oriental
nic nacs. I mostly keep those in a large curio but there are still plenty out on the table, desk, wall, etc.

People would probably think the same thing about me because my furniture is old LOL. But we like it and even though I would love to update my furniture we don't have the extra money right now.

Wow...what an interesting question! I guess they would think that I'm somewhat modern and that my house is also my office because I always have work stuff laying around. (paperwork from my real job, or beads and other jewelry making supplies on my work table, etc.)
They would see that I like to live comfortably and my home is always presentable, but I'm not necessarily a neat freak.

They would see that I like things colour coordinated, but I am not overly fussy. I am very down to earth. I like a home to feel welcoming, not formal and stuffy.

People coming into my home can see I read a lot of books and I am not very tidy. I don't own any decorative items, I only buy things I need or which have a practical use.
I do like to see antique items, artworks and well crafted stylish furniture but they don't have a place in my life right now.

What an interesting question! I think they might think I have quite modern sytle of decorating as I like my funky furniture and bright colours and my spare room is a lovely deep red and purple with black and is quite funky with lots of candels and incense etc. It is quite crazy how people can actually get the completely wrong idea about you though just by how your home is decorated or furnished!
