When I was 18 I worked as a children's nanny in Finland. The family was quite wealthy and they had a town house, a country farm house and a lakeside cottage. I liked the preety landscape with the green forests and the blue lakes. I enjoyed a visit to the capital city, Helsinki. It has some stunning looking buildings and interesting architecture. I also liked Turku and its historical riverside. It was lovely to stroll around the streets of Tampere and then to go to a nearby national park with many beautiful views. I liked the friendly people and remember the way they were so generous and kind to me. The Finnish language is quite a challenging one to learn. The weather was cool in the summer with only one hot day. Berry picking was really popular. I loved having a sauna and then swimming in the refreshingly cool lake. I was amazed how safe it was there in 1990. We left the front door open and didn't lock our bikes. It is one of the nicest countries that I have ever been to.
