Summer bedtime schedules

Now that summer break has started, if you stay home with the kids, do you still require them to go to bed on a schedule? I'm pretty lenient about letting my kids stay up as late as they want (within reason) but I have friends who make their children go to bed around 9pm or so every night of summer vacation? Something about keeping them on a schedule? If we don't have to be up for anything in the morning, I'm all for letting them stay up and sleep late! Any thoughts on this?

We still have two more weeks before we get out of school, but once summer starts, we try to stick to the same bedtime schedule. Our kids get really cranky if they don't get enough sleep.
