Hello Blueberry I live in Holland.
When you come to The Netherlands for a vacation a really great way is to take one of the tours that are on offer. These tours have a wide range of things they go to and are worthwhile. If you are in Amsterdam then one of the canal cruises is a great way to see some of the architecture along the canal belt. And a great way to take a rest too because they can take up to 3 hours.
Often in the summer it can be very humid and if you are not used to that it can be very uncomfortable.
Holland is a small country and so it's easy to see a lot in a realtively short space of time.
Yes they seem to have a sweet tooth here. Just about all the cafes, restaurants and sandwich shops will have some kind of offer of coffee with a slice of pie. Although the quality will differ a lot depending on which one you actually visit.

It would greatly depend on which part of The Netherlands you would like to visit. I'd suggest that you first have a look at the site of the Dutch Tourist Board for some more detailed information. Don't worry they have pages in English. Usually a youth hostel (dutch word is jeugdherberg) will be the most inexspensive option for travellers who do not require too much luxury and are on a budget. It would be wise to book in advance if possible so you won't be dissapointed if they happen to be full up.
And if you do go then let us know how your trip was!

My husband lived in Holland for about 6 months roughly 6 years ago. he said it was really pretty but there was trash everywhere. They were still using the Styrofoam mcdonalds containers and people would go in, buy their food and just throw their trash on the ground. There were a lot of snack shops due to the legalization of pot. We haven't been back, so I don't know if it it still like that or not.

I studied in the Netherlands for four months. I lived in house share with other students and we each had a bike for cycling around the local area. I liked Leewarden and found the canals as well as the old buildings attractive. The lanscape is flat and there are many cycling paths. The people love to go cycling and are very friendly. The Dutch are wonderful with foreign languages. I traveled all around Holland and Delft was my favorite place that I explored. I think Amsterdam is a really beautiful city. I hope that youn will go to the Netherlands one day soon and really enjoy your time there.

Hi Blueberry yes The Netherlands is a wonderful place, i lived and grow up there until I was 15 (now live in New Zealand). I lived in the south and really miss the atmosphere, very quaint places, lots of history, festivlas and traditions. Amsterdam is a very colourful place, I adore it, the Canal boats, Anne Frank House, Madam Tusaud all worth a visit. The best way to get around is by train and ofcourse bicycle, very safe to cycle in Holland as there are cycle lanes everywhere, safe up hard, follow your dream and have fun in Nederland
