Do you have a favorite movie speech?

A lot of discussions revolve around favorite movie lines, but how about speeches? There are a lot of memorable movie speeches - the more well-known ones are Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig's retirement speech, Jimmy Stewart's speech in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Pat O'Brien's recreation of Knute Rockne's speech to the team at halftime, and more recently, Kevin Costner's speech (actually closing argument) in JFK. My current favorite speech is from Friday Night Lights, when Billy Bob Thorton's character (and I don't know if the coach gave this speech to his team in real life), gave the speech about being perfect, that being perfect is not about winning or losing, but trying your best and knowing that you've tried your best, so if anybody asks, you can answer that you tried your best and know it to be true. Is there a speech a character made in a movie that stands out?

Some of the best speeches are in the worst films. "Independence Day" is no classic, but I like the president's "we will not go quietly into the night" speech. I haven't seen "Wall Street" but I love Gordon Gecko's "Greed is good" speech, which I find both completely true and inspiring. In Jesse Franco's version of "Count Dracula", Christopher Lee delivers a very good monologue while staring directly at the camera, talking about his ancestor's (or his?) military exploits in previous centuries: "This was a Dracula indeed!"

There are quite some notable speech/lines in a movie that has had very strong impact. The one that stood out to me was Liz Hurley in Bedazzled. It was near the end when she said "You really don't have to try hard to look for heaven or hell. They're right here on earth. You make the choices.". It may not be the exact words but it's meaning meant a lot to me and has always been until now. It changed my life a lot since at that time I saw the movie (around 2001, I think) I was on the brink of breaking down due to tons of problems. It helped me get back up and all the message conveyed through that film. God Bless to all.

I just watched "The Contender" starring Joan Allen and Jeff Bridges and I really loved the speech Jeff Bridges, as President of the United States, gave at the end. So often I see movie and TV politicians and wonder why we can't have more like them in real life! Annie
