My kids wanted to have their own cell phone. They are only in grade school and we are not sure if this will affect their studies,I guess it is, but I'm sure there are lots of ideas, most likely have experienced parents that have their kids a cell phone during grade school, but did not affect to their studies. Please feel free to share it here so that we have the idea of what to do before we buy cell phone for our kids.

As a elementary teacher, I know that kids are allowed to have cell phones but they can not be used during school hours. Doesn't the idea of young people using cell phones constantly bug you?
I get a real kick out of some of tbese kids walking around chatting on their cell phone unconscious of that is going on around them. They will be in with a small group of friends and chatting on their phones! I am an adult and don't see the need for a cell phone that much!
Do you think young people lack the social skills adults have becuase of the internet and cell phones?

I dont think it is a good idea to give cellphones to kids this age. You may try to give them skype-phones though. The aim is to avoid them using gsm frequencies for a long time.

I don't think it will affect the grades of the kids as long as you talk to them about discipline and being responsible on it. in case their grades get lower then remind them that you will get it back.

Hi, I'm not a mom yet. But I think kids shouldn't have cell phone at such age. My main concerns are in few things as follow:
a) Will it make them addicted to the mobile games? or even browsing websites?
b) Will they enjoy building friendship through phone only and ignore their study?
c) The radiation of mobile phones is very dangerous to adult. So, I think it will dangerous more to kids as well.
