So many posts about making money on myLot!

Every day when I get my Digest I see at least two threads about making money on myLot and how many posts it takes to make money. People talking about how many posts they can do in a day or a week, and having goals. I just do not understand this.
How can anyone think that they can make money on myLot and if they do 1) couldn't they be making a lot more money with a job and benefits putting in the same amount of time in a real job??? and 2) what is the quality of their threads or posts if they are doing so many in a day or a week.
All I know is that I feel as if I see one more of these I will spit nails. Are you really here to make money? What about nice conversations that are give and take? What about quality instead of such simple questions like; Do you hold your toothbrush in our right or left hand? I don't come here that often but I also do not plan on making money here and I just do not have the time. Spending hours here??? I don't know, that does not seem like a very productive/profitable life. I am anxious to hear what everyone has to say.

I really can't imagine a person coming to MyLot to replace their regular job! It would take a lot of work, alot of posts and referals to do something like that! I personally have a full time job and can't 'afford' to quit it (pensions, health care, etc)! But Mylot gives me two things that I am really happy with:
-I get to meet alot of cool people and discuss what I want to discuss when I want to discuss it. I love to hash it out with liberals in the 'politics' page or seeking out people from other countries. I love to learn.
-Extra cash. Some poeple say it is only a few cents a day, so what! A few cents a day over a couple of months is a a nice pile of change. From there it is what you do with the money that makes the difference: I have several internet pay sites and the MyLot cash will be used to invest in the stock market to take advantage of deappreciated values in the market (use money to make more). Another program will be used to by bulk freezer foods before prices jump from increased fuel cost (using money to save money).
What will mylot give you? Leverage. Leverage to learn something new from someone you never met before and extra money (a penny saved is a penny earned but a penny made is a dollar in leverage).
How's that? What do you think?

I am really new here, and all of a sudden the subject of money and numbers of posts seemed to be overwhelming. I was begining to think I would not bother to come here any more. I can definitely come here and do my thing but the frequency of those posts being in my face, was starting to make me rethink things. Reading the posts that are here just in this short period of time, that are written by people with common sense has made me feel better. I can ignor the posts about money and numbers and feel like it is not "par for the course". I thank you and agree that your philosphy make a lot of sense. I am glad you responded.

I think some people do see myLot as a money making opportunity. They will probably be disappointed and leave because they have no interest in starting or taking part in valuable discussions. It is a mistake many people make to think that the more posts you make the more you earn.
Discussions about post numbers, earnings and goals will always get a lot of responses. Like simple questions that require a simple answer, they are easy to understand and to add a response for most people. A serious discussion about real issues or an important topic will get fewer responses because not everyone has something to say about it, or understands the topic.
People who enjoy good quality discussions just have to put up with the sillier ones, or ignore them. Personally I would much rather write fewer responses in interesting discussions than write a lot of simple short responses just to reach my next goal.

everyone's goals and situations are different. there are some people who are stay at home parents who do have the time to put into mylot. I am very lucky that i have a great job that allows for alot of down time so i can hang out here on mylot most of the day.
i mean who cares why people are here. rather it's to make money or to make friends. as long as they are happy

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Frankly I thought I might get flamed for starting this thread but I am so happy that I did start it. I got really good answers.

I can't imagine either, I also can't imagine people spending enough time here so post so many threads and answers as they say. Thank you.

I don't think earning money is the main goal in mylot. My first reason for post here is to improve my English. But in the meanwhile, mylot can give money for my posts. I think it is also a good thing but can not be the first reason for me to post here.

I think you picked a really good way to work on your English. I wish you a lot of luck. From your post I think you are doing a great job.
A lot of Americans do not have the interest to learn another another language. I wanted to but failed miserably.
Keep up the good work and thanks for your reply.

I agree with you on point one.Hope of earning your bread by writing posts in myLot is ridiculous.I don't know whether there is a arithmetic that a post with lots of responses may rank high and could obtain more money. If the hypothesis is true I think it may make sense since these kinds of discussions could attract many responses

Thanks for your response. I have not looked into what it is that makes you earn money on myLot. I could care less. I had no idea when I came here that I could earn money and since I have been posting (very little) my dollar amount is under 5.

Its deffinately not a make a living type of site to be sure. and on my days off i spend a fair amount of time here looking for a good question to post to, but i dont post to just any response. i post to responses that I can add something too. The type of questions i avoid answering are the ones that require a one word or one line. they are just a massive waste of time and you dont learn anything from them. the questions that take more time to answer are the ones i go for. it seems that post wise, less is more. and it seems that in the actual length of your post is what makes you the most. and posts that demand length seem to do more to help you express your thoughts more clearly. as far as money...i like it. its not a living, no. but im using it as a savings account of sorts to save up for something that i really want. that item is 1,500 dollar item and i by no means expect to make that much here, but at the very least i can defrey the out of pocted cost a little bit. its extra pocket money for me.

I think the reason some people spend so much time on here is because they are unable to work for one reason or another or they are retired. I have no doubt they already know they can earn a lot more in one day at a real job then they can here even if they spent all day on mylot. But since they do spend their time here they just want to show others here that it is possible to make a little extra a month, which can come in handy for them. Okay, so I agree there shouldn't be so many discussions about it, but I usually just pass these up when I see them.
I never spend too much time actually participating (responding/starting discussions). I get more caught up in the reading! So much for me getting rich on mylot! LOL

My friend introduced me here to spend my idle time by writing, instead of being sleepy always while waiting for reports from my technical group i do mylot writing and response to some discussion which i interested also. At first i saw it a chance to gain points and earn money when you have many post but i sometimes realized that it took the time of my working hour which my company paid me. Thats why i only do mylot writing after work and when no reports coming.
Have a nice day!

Those posts about making money are repetitous and just
plain boring.Quality posts and responses will pay if you
can do this for enough hours.some of us are handicapped
and this affords us a way to make extra money and also'
enjoy the friendships and caring and sharing you can have
on mylot. For those of us housebound our computer helps to
make extra money to add to our social security checks.

I think that most of those threads are pointless as there are hundreds of them asking a select few questions "how many cents do you get per post" "how much have you made so far" and "how can I make the most of mylot". I am here for the money initally, but I do like the conversation. The reason that I do not put my time into a proper job is because I am at college and most jobs available tend to look for full time people and I am not able to work that. I am currently looking for a job for over the summer, but I am not having much luck and that is my reason for trying to put a lot of effort into my lot and earn some extra money, so I can go out with friends, buy presents for people's birthdays etc.

That seems practical, I find it interesting now that you mention it that posters repeat the same posts that are right above theirs. Doesn't anyone ever read to see if there is another discussion going on just like their thread? I really find this to be a big issue in the cat section. I can't tell you how many times I have responded with one of the following answers:
-Keep your cat inside (depending on the country where the person is from, and why it is safer for the cat
-Wet food is best, and why
-Spay/neuter your cat. In the USA thousands of cats are destroyed in each county in each state every single month.
An intact couple, with their offspring can create 420 cats in 7 years.
Then I will turn around and within an hour someone is asking the same question. Should I neuter my cat, did I do the right thing. Is it better to let the cat have kittens, what should I feed my cat. It makes no sense to keep asking the same questions but I do think it is human nature.

I am sure people think that their problem is different to everyone else's when it is actually the same question, just phrased differently. It is really annoying when you see many threads named the same thing, because you don't know if you have replied to it, or if it was the thread's double that you replied to, and to find out you have to scan through ten pages of replies.

I guess some people can justify devoting 11 hours to earn $2.87 on myLot. The ones that do it for money usually do not last very long. Because we know you can't earn an income on myLot unless you get a lot of active referrals.
At least they are doing something positive with their lives and they are setting goals. This will help them later in life when they grow up.
