I came across this article and it really hit home. I am a veteran and have been home for almost 1 year. I was medically discharged and have been waiting at least 5 months to get my compensation and medical care I need. I am only 26 but have to rely on a cane, knee braces, and back braces.
I found this article on www.military.com because I get emails from them and this one just really hit home. What do you think?
Stand up for Veterans. They stood up for us.
More than 300,000 of our military service personnel and veterans are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with serious wounds and permanent disabilities. Yet the federal governement is not providing sufficient, timely, and predictable funding to treat their visible and invisible wounds of war. Our veterans stood up for us. Now it's time we stand up for them. Visit www.standup4vets.org to sign a petition urging Congress and the President to take action so the men and women who fought to defend our nation don't have to fight to get the medical care they need and deserve.
...........
The article goes on to talk about what Stand Up For Veterans is. However, I just don't know what to think. The article talks about people coming home from warzones. I never made it that far and I was still medically discharged (honorably, disabled)...so does that mean that I should still have to wait longer to receive my benefits because I never actually went to war? And if that is the case I will accept it because all soldiers and veterans need to be helped. And if they have top priority, GOOD!!!
I really hope this orginization pans out because the government is making veterans wait WAY too long to receive any type of benefit...whether is is schooling, compensation, medical help, etc...they make all of our veterans wait way too long.
Please check out the website and sign the petition if you agree with this. If you don't agree, why? I'd really like to know everyone's opinions on this matter.

First of all, please let me say thank you for all that you've done. I really hope that things do get better and I promise you I'll be checking out that website. I'm about to marry a US Marine. He just got out and has served two tours in Iraq. He came back with slight injuries. Some ptsd and hearing loss. Of course his knees and back are weakened a little, but nothing serious. His hearing loss has caused some problems though. It took the VA hospital 2 YEARS to get him an appointment for his hearing aids. Once he DID get in they tried to make him pay for it. Now he is supposed to be getting some disability pay. Not much, but some. It's been 2 years and we've heard nothing. I do know that his needs are NOTHING compared to what many are going through. But I do understand a little and I'm appalled by how our brave military members are being treated. I respect each and every person who has served and they all deserve better. Good luck and let me know if there is anything I can do.

Thank you very much for going to check out this website. I, too, went and checked it out when I saw it in my email box. Even as a veteran I want to stand up for those who have been through so much more than me, like your husband. If there was anything I could think of...besides wait...I'd tell people how to get things done faster myself LOL!!! Thank you so much for supporting our troops and our veterans. I really appreciate it. Thank you for the comment :D
