Why some high schools insist on hiring bad baseball coaches?

It has been proven that a good coach is capable of detecting talent ,and kids tend to be motivated to play better and win more games if they have been trained with the proper skills. Is sad to see a coach who only cares about making his son look good ,and has little regard for the rest of the players. Do you agree with me that politics should not play an important role in choosing a competent coach? Some coaches don't even take the time to obtain scholarships for talented baseball players.

High School Coaches can definitly be a frustrating subject for many. Our High School fired a good head coach because he kept fighting to get some improvements to our baseball program. The next head coach hired was a football coach. He was a great guy, but he just didn't have the baseball knowledge. We went to the state finals that year, but it was mainly because of talent. There is no reason a team which sent 7 starters to good college programs couldn't win. They were close games, but we just needed a little more of an edge. I really think the problem lies with administration. It seems they just want to fill a position sometimes. Our school was an "academic" school. They were more interested in hiring from within or a cheap coach. Theres nothing wrong with a good academic school. Ours just took it too far sometimes. I think with a little effort most every school could find a decent coach who will fight for the players. Politics are way too involved. Also, if a player has a little talent, a coach should have no problems finding him somewhere to play college ball. There are thousands of colleges with baseball programs. Some are just starting up or in lower divisions who will take a less talented player. That turned into a bit of a rant, but I am basically agreeing with you. A good coach can keep a player in line on and off the field. You can't put a price on their value.

Besides the academic interest, it happens too when schools are more concentrated on football or basketball and they don't seem to care much about baseball.
