Why can't kitty litter smell better?

It's got that funky smell to it. Do cats dig that smell?! Why doesn't it come in these scents: vanilla yogurt, tropical passion and fresh baked banana bread?

They probably don't make them scented because they figure nobody's gonna be sniffing it. LOL Plus, it's gonna end up stinking to high-heaven anyway, so why bother? One of my cats doesn't like scents. She hates it when I'm wearing lotion and it's not even scented! I guess she's pretty sensitive to smells or something. I don't know. She would definitely hate it if the litter was scented, so it wouldn't do me any good anyway.

Hey, I've stocked shelves with kitty litter at Wal-Mart, so I'd know! It's not fun to deal with a torn bag and get the kitty litter scent on your hands!

I would settle for neutral. I hate it when you smell tht cat box urine smell. I also do not like to clean the cat pan so maybe one that would dissolve cat body waste would be cool. I try to keep kitty happy by keeping the pan relatively tidy but yuk!

I hear you on that. I think it's supposed to neutralize the smell of their um... stuff... that they leave in the litter box for you though. But they really should try some new scent that's at least bearable. I've walked into houses before that just wreaked of the wretched litter smell.

my cat's scented litter smells good. i always know when he come by me that he has been to the litter box because he smells like baby power for it. i wasnt sure where the smell on him was coming from but then i realized it was from his litter box.

lol! i dont think the cats would like those scents, i dont think it is intentially made to smell like that. Lets face it tho i would rather have the new kitty litter smell than one that has been used lol!

I dont like cat litter at all and all that dust . I want something fresh as well , but do you think cats would use it ? Just thiking maybe a mix of vanilla and pee would make me sick . Maybe something like orange ,lime , and lemons know to eat up smells would work.

I think the tropical passion variety would work for your cats then.

Smells that are nice to us probably would offend the cats and they would quit using the box. They do make scented litter, but the scent doesn't last that long. I think that Fresh Step is one of the scented litters. It is supposed to release a pleasing odor for the pet owner when the cat steps in the litter box. I used to use alfalfa pellets, but my current cat doesn't like that kind of litter so I had to change to regular clay litter. The plus with alfalfa pellets is that there is no dust, it is kind to the environment and it keeps the smell down and releases a kind of "mowed lawn" smell. It's available at feed stores. It used to be sold as litter green, but I haven't seen it for quite a while. Baking soda in the bottom of the litter box will also help control odors. I am not too fond of using the baking soda-if you have a cat that digs to the bottom of the box before using it, you may get baking soda tracks in the house. One other option is the Litter Maid litter box. It is wonderful as you don't have to clean the litter box constantly. The cat uses the box, and ten minutes later it scoops the litter and deposits it into a plastic container at the end of the box. It has a lid that covers the collection box so that you just have to snap the lid onto the box and toss the whole thing into the dumpster...it makes the litter matter a lot easier. Plus, you could put a Glade air freshener at the area the box is and it would help eliminate a lot of the offensive odors. I have a Litter Maid and love it, I use clumping litter and I don't have to constantly clean the box. They aren't that expensive if you think about it-I got mine for $60 at Wal Mart.

All kinds of smells bother me. To keep the box smelling less, I dump some baking soda in it. It neutralizes a lot of the odor.
